Wind warning for City of Toronto

Very high winds expected tonight and Wednesday.

This is a warning that damaging winds are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A powerful winter storm currently centred over Lake Nipigon will track northeastwards across Northern Ontario today.

Freezing rain this morning..

A band of freezing rain is moving eastward across the above warned regions. The freezing rain will end from west to east over the next few hours. Note that the Ottawa area remains outside the freezing rain warning. While the band of precipitation is now moving through the city the cold airmass deep enough to allow the precipitation to fall mainly as snow or ice pellets. However a little freezing rain could be mixed in at times.

Wind tonight and Wednesday..

The cold front from this system is expected to sweep through southern Ontario tonight reaching Windsor by midnight and Toronto by 6 or 7 AM Wednesday morning.

Behind the cold front a very strong blast of cold Arctic air is expected that will cause the temperature to plummet sharply. Winds directly behind the cold front are expected to exceed warning criteria of 60 gusting to 100 km/h. These high winds are expected to continue for much of Wednesday in areas to the Lee of the Great Lakes. Combined with the snow associated with the cold front reduced visibilities in blowing snow is likely behind the cold front.

Please refer to the latest public forecasts for further details.

Very crazy wind here in London last night.

Knocked the power out at 3am.

Still a little wild outside even now.
