O.K so I have seen the term "RMS" come up in quite a few threads lately. I always thought I knew what it was until I decided to research it a little more thorough. Now I have just confused the out of myself. Could someone please give me a brief explanation of "RMS"?

What is average RMS? What is peak RMS? What is the easiest way to measure RMS?

Just like most topics I'm sure it has come up a billion times so I apologize, but when searching for it on TA i get nothing.

ps. Lately I have been focusing on giving my tracks more dynamic range so I thought knowing all this would come in handy...

Cheers all

It's basically taking the arithmetic mean of the power dissipated through a resistor like a speaker given a certain current we will call I.

AKA the mean power delivered into a specific load. I would assume average RMS uses the average power while peak RMS uses the peak power.

That's an interesting read to visualize the concept.
