Something new: Which version do you prefer?

I've been extremely busy most of the last year, and I haven't had that much time to spend towards music. I started playing around with something the other day that I feel may have potential. However, I've come up with two versions. I would like your opinion on which you all prefer. Keep in mind this is only a few measures of something that I feel could be expanded upon...
Version 1:
Mercury-preview1.mp3
Version 2:
Mercury-preview2.wma
Or, do they both completely suck so bad I should start over?

Thanks for the vote! I just knew someone was going to mention that. Somewhere between version 1 and 2 I realized that Adobe Audition would export to a higher quality .wma than the 320Kbps .mp3 :p |

First of all this should actually be posted in the Music Producer's Promotion Thread.

Thanks for the feedback! I figured completed songs would be posted in the promotion forum. I'm not trying to promote anything here. Rather, I'm trying to get feedback on a possible future production.
Original idea or progression? Perhaps you are right, but it felt right at the time pressing those little black and white keys :D
What did you like about the first one over the second one? |

The strings are better than the filter sweep synth imo, so my vote goes to number one.
The sound is nice but the tune would need a strong melody or vocal to really shine, would have been the next step for me at least. Keep up the good work.

Version 2 sounds better. Get rid of the bleepy melody. It just sounds very cheesy and random. Maybe transpose the gated synth down one octave? The percs and bassline are very good, so don't throw them away! :) |
