when i turn on my computer , i have the choice to load win98 or XP

help me , , now i wanna get rid of win98 which is in my c:\ without having to format the whole C:\ (cuz i have so many i can't back up)

is there a way to do that ?
DamnDirtyApe
so you want to stop using win98, but keep some files on that partition?
FASTDJMP3
yes , i wanna stop using win98 (i want my computer to automatically load win XP after i remove it) , but keep all the other files i have , how can i do that
DamnDirtyApe
well that might be problematic sincec you have winxp on drive #2. If you want, you can erase win98 but you have to keep the partition it is on.

I would recommend you get Powerquest Partition magic, but it's possible without it.

Another question: can you see the drive with win98 on it when you are using WinXP?
FASTDJMP3
yes i can see it

so what do u recommend now ?

Okay, step one is to find a file on C: called boot.ini.

It will look something like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
Windows 98

First make a backup of this file. Then you want to delete the line after [operating systems] that has windows 98 in it. Next, make sure the default= line has same info as the windows xp line under operating systems. Then change timeout to =0.

After doing this (and making sure that XP boots properly) you can delete c:\windows without fear.

would be to jsut reinstall winXP on the C-drive and have it overwrite the windows dir?!?
DamnDirtyApe
Heh, yeah it might just be easier to start from scratch as far as windows is concerned.

FASTDJMP3
sorry but i can't be arsed to try that :/

any other solution ?
DamnDirtyApe
Sorry man.. it's hard to do this stuff when you aren't there in person. :(
