xfader or volumes?

i recently (two weeks) picked up some vestax pda-1s (HURRA) and a numark dm2000x mixer. they rock (i dont care what you say). i can sorta beatmatch (sometimes) but what i want to know is what to use, the X fader or the volume levels? I mix both ways, although i find volume mixing more fun. what am i supposed to be doing or is there a right way? sometimes i heard people say the x fader is for fairies, but then ill see someone describing this cool mix they do and it involves bangin the fader over. any help would be great!

both + eq's

no wrong or right way.....just as long as it sounds good

Erm, neither, actually. I keep the cross-fader in the middle all the time, and my volumes are all the way up for both channels. If I need to mute that channel, i will turn the EQ knobs on that channel all the way down. :D

yeah, it's personal preference.

The only time i ever touch the XFader is when i'm mixing hip hop or scratching. Other than that, i use the volume faders when i'm mixing trance/house. Some people use gains, but i dont because gains directly affect the cue volume in my headphones.

depends on what kindda faders you have, on my old gemini i used only volume faders, now i use both volume and crossfaer cuz i didn't get used to the curve yet. Ofcourse i use the EQs
Trypsin
volume + eq because my xfader is broke :(

Actually I'm not complaining, I find that using volume is a bit more accurate than xfader because you can do more complicated fades as necessary depending on the volumes of the particular tracks you're mixing.

eq's and volumes, I dont use xfader

Dmatrox
ive gotten used to mixing with volumes.

I turn crossfader off and just use the volumes. Much more smoother mixing this way :)
