First long Gig

So I just got a weekly gig @ a sports bar @ Miami Beach...Its a nice chilling sports bar with Flat screens, pool table and a nice long bar. Ive been told its an edm type crowd which is awesome, but this is the first time that I have to play for so long. Im on from 11:30 pm - 5:00 am. Im sure that any pro would say "thats nothing," but I am not a pro lol. Usually i've performed 3-4 hour sets @ peak hour (coming on after an opening DJ). But this time I have to start it, peak it, and finish it. If anyone has had to play for this amount of time plz share how you have managed to program such a long set

um...do a search for like 12 hour set...i had to do a 12 hour gig, and that thread is loaded with advice....

on fridays and saturdays, i play from 9pm-2am at one club, then go to the after hours club and play 2am-5am. play tons of different genres (i play lots of hip hop/house/rock mashups, etc) and you will have no problem keeping things fresh. also, in that long of a set, it's acceptable for a couple of repeats of the really popular tracks (god damn Flo-Rida ...)

best thing people recommended me was to do like little 20 minute sets on CD's and just play those when you get way tired.

I did a 16-hour once ( new millenium party ), and to answer your question, I didn't program. Best gig of my life so far. Some of the people ended up sleeping with pizzas as a pillow or in the stairs, toilets, etc... I killed everyone with a Massive Attack at the end :D

longest gig i ever did was 6 hour house party for a rich brat and next weekend it be another 6 hour house party for that same brat. I just practicing a few new tune to knock the sock off him big time. Because if keep doing him good I could get my name known in area more. Like if get tired and need 5 minute breather I put on 10 minute tune and use rest room then walk outside and then come back in refreshed.

But always bring along my friend so he watches my equipment while out doing that because my first gig I did that and when got back some fool spilled some soda on the mixer and it quit playing.

Its not really that bad once u get mixing. For long gigs that I play, I usually never even get to alot of tracks I wanted to play cause I ran out of time. :wtf:

Take a dump before you hit the decks

Have a nap before

Eat a good meal

Have an energy drink

Have a chair nearby. Your legs will get tired

Pace yourself. Mix it up a bit. Don't play same genre all the time.

Have fun :)
