| Well guys im tryna decide on rather to get the Audiofire2 or 4 because at this moment in time im not really concerned about recording vocals or guitars or anything with mics. And i could save 100$ going the Audiofire2 route so which do u think would be better suited? |

Didn't you just answer your own question? :conf:
Other than the additional inputs and pre amps the Audiofire 2 and 4 are the same. |

i would go USB. an e-mu 0202 would be good. firewire can be a bit too temperamental for live use imo, but performs far better. you only need 2 outs, so usb is fine. |

| My audiofire4 just arrived today that i got off ebay. Played around with it for a lil bit and i think im gonna enjoy it. Pretty simple to get up and going, worked through Ableton right off the bat. But yeah, if u dont need the extra inputs then go with the two and save some money :) |

What makes you say that, I would have said the opposite.
I have a personal hate for USB soundcards. |

even the best firewire soundcards are susceptible to great incompatibilities with certain firewire chipsets. for example, the latest batch of macbooks can't be used with RME firefaces. usb is much more standardised, as the controlers are always intel (on an intel board..)
you hate usb soundcards for the card, not the port they connect to :P
i'll agree, quality soundcards in usb are few and far between, but the 0202 and 0404 are quite good in my oppinion. |

whilst on the subject of the audiofire which I own, I have a question.
Whenever I load up ableton, a single pop is emitted from the monitors. This also happens when I press play on itunes for the first time. Or when I play a video file in media player.
For now I make sure my monitors are turned off, until i know the pop has happened as I'm worried it may damage the monitors.
Do you think this could be a fault with the audiofire or does anyone have an idea what may be causing it.
I'm on windows xp and have the latest drivers installed for the audiofire |

It sounds like the pop is happening inside the software. In that case it shouldn't damage your monitors. Unless you have them turned up REALLY loud. |
