Exactly.
My combination is Firefox + ******** + AVG. Everything seems to be pretty stable here.
I perhaps should use a firewall just to be sure, though. Laziness has got in the way of ever getting myself to install and configure one properly. :o |

Stay off of MSN. Stay off of AIM. Stay off of Myspace. They are all really ing ty/popular programs whose overuse lends itself to obvious infections.
GoogleTalk imo |

Download Hijack This and log onto a forum (there are many) who can troubleshoot your problems. AVG Antivirus is a good program to prevent viruses, and its free. Winpatrol stops root file infections with Scotty the Watchdog on patrol. Ad-aware is a free program to rid you of spyware.
Bottom line is you need a Hijack This log to see what's running on your computer. You can type in Msconfig on the Run Programs as a quick look to see what's booting up when you log on without going into Regedit (dangerous if you have no experience).
Go with my original suggestion and let the local geeks figure it out. This is not the forum for such matters even though I could probably fix it for you. I regulary contribute on the geek forums.

Root viruses are a little more difficult to remove than the software mentioned. Had probs repeatedly with Win 2K and killed most with Win XP tranistition, but not immune. I like going into Warez sites known for infection to retrieve free software, music, and other stuff. You have to be vigilant with popups trying to install trojans and stuff. Some can only be stoped from installation by stopping your browser altogether. Price of doing business there and not recommended for amateurs.

Okay, I'm a bad internets user.
I have a tower that I use for the sole purpose of running protools. That tower operated as a stand alone for 2 years and recently got hooked up to the internets by my partner in crime...who is not compter savvy. Because I allowed my antivirus to expire and because I need to turn off the firewall just to get online, I (suprise, suprise) have been innundated with viruses, spyware, worms, etc...
What antivirus/firewall/spware/adware/malware/worm/PC syphillis software do you suggest? |
What do you mean by "running protools". A computer by nature "runs protocols". :conf: |
