but this was never fully enforced after 3am. For filling the club from open until 3am it was. |

the sign was there... i didnt see it enforced though, i think it was there for any new folks, b/c space gets a lot of out of towners regularly
plus back in the old space days i was much younger and naive about going against the grain
this was circa 2001.. |

Now that I think about it it's prob a good thing.
The execution of the bulletin was a bit... condesending? For lack of a better word. I mean you're talking to your customers here, I think a bit lighter tone would have done wonders.
Also, what's the problem with stripped polos? :conf: |

man.. some of you people just dont think outside of the box do you?? These codes are being enforced to control the thug element that has increased over at space since they launched the hip hop upstairs a few years ago.. Let's face it.. Space is a happening spot and its attracting all kinds of people.. The good.. the bad.. the thugs.. the drugs... Im pretty damn confdent that this is referring mostly to the hip-hop crowd upstairs... however... they cant say "Oh you are a black ghetto thug so we cant let u in wearing that stripped polo.. but we can let the little house raver in with no problem".
They have to make the rules fair for everybody.. no matter what color you are.

I'm just glad because space was one way along time ago when the entire club was 1 main room and the small side room.
Since it beacme 2 floors to make 1 - a hip hop room... Space kinda went down the ter.
This is more for that crowd anyways. I don't think the trance/house heads need a lesson in dress code |

The list is obviously geared towards getting rid of a certain portion of the population. I agree with that observation. But if they really wanted to clean up Space why dont they cancel the hip-hop ghetto-fab party all together for a while, if not 4ever? Why not cancel that crap, start a new promotion to a more upscale crowd that listens to R&B and hip hop and then start up the new party in a few weeks or months - if they really need the $$$$ from such a party. Hopefully they'll have better results and a better crowd? Because as long as they continue that same party the thugs and all their BS will keep coming in like flies to , dress code or no dress code. The thugs will only have to dress better to do so and get around that list, big in deal. They are still thugs; even if they put on a 3 piece suit, hand you a bouquet of roses and sing you a love song while walking into Space. Even the mainroom looks like Comptom or Spanish Harlem lately, and I avoid it except for very special events.
Another option much better than creating this dress code/list, LP should just start charging everyone. Get rid of all those free lists b4 1 a.m., and watch how fast most of those ghetto dwellers, little kiddies, other lowlifes, freeloaders and people that should not be going out disappear from Space like it was magic. Bottom line is that if you cannot afford to even pay to get into Space, you should not be there. Period. These tactics, parties, promotions & guestlists have attracted the very crowd that Space supposedly wants to get rid of now. How funny. If you promote to the lowest common denominator, this is what you get. It is very simple, and they cannot have it both ways. |
