Why does my M-Audio Firewire 410 not receive MIDI signals?

I have my M-Audio Firewire 410 hooked up to my PC and I used to be able to hit the learn button in programs and the programs would sense MIDI data being sent, but as of late I do not have any luck with the computer sensing MIDI data.
What could be the cause of this? |

it could be just about anything.
software: drivers, your daw, settings in either
hardware: cabling, the midi device, your card, bus interface
personally, i'd reinstall all my software first (perhaps even windows).
testing things on another pc will also narrow it down a bit. |
