Best Video Editing Software [for n00b video production]

Any suggestions on what to use? I just want to edit videos (cut, paste, remove, etc...) and add a fancy effect here or there.

adobe premiere isnt bad. i havent used it in years though.

Window Movie Maker has never failed to impress me.

It's simple, egregious, but useful.

not the easiest S/w for n00bs.

here's a decent comparison of various S/W on the market.

I've used Powerdirector and Ulead before. I found Powerdirector was pretty easy to work with. Ulead kept crashing.

Windows Movie Maker is easy to use too, but it had limitations and didn't work too well for me at the time.

iMovie is actually pretty decent.
