Beware of your MySpace photos

Just a little reminder to all of you in the process of looking for a job or are "in between" opportunities, be careful of what photos you have on your MySpace or public profile.
I work for an advertising firm and we are in the process of launching a campaign for the state targeted towards teens. One of the spokespersons chosen to be on the campaign posters and Web site we had to pull due to objectionable pictures on his MySpace page. He had drug references/weed smoking/middle fingers, etc. This would have been a great opportunity for this young man but due to oversight in common sense, he missed out.
Employers do look for this stuff so beware! :whip: |

| that is why you make your page private!!!!! i learned that when my students found my page over 3 years ago. thank God i didn't have anything really detrimental on my page at that time ;) |

| tip: Don't use the same email address that you use to login to myspace as the same one you use for employment. |

Or your real name for that matter... just cause a lot of employers (mine included) go beyond myspace and just google your ass. Always a good idea to google yourself every now and then anyways, just to see what comes up... |

yes, I've heard of stories here of separations due to content on people's myspace. Different email and name peoples!

| this is very true, in one of my HR management classes we had a whole discussion about HR recruiters using sites like myspace in order to pr-screen applicants. I brought up the fact that this can be seen as a possible form of discrimination. Personally I think it's silly but it looks like the best solution is to set your profile to private. |

nop but for real it tripped me out when i found out that this girl in my class actually checks up on this stuff..(HR Generalist) I was like I'll never want to work for your company
i think im going to go set my to private right now (lol)
