Ask Jingles! :p

A single figurehead can have utter control if he is the idol by which mandates are issued to indoctrinate people gradually; make them trust in you, make them love the system because it fulfills their ever (assigned) need. Above all, misdirect the people from the idea that there is conflict; keep them safe from the fears that grow within and you can control them slowly and absolutely.

You do not need trenches of dead patriots and subversive factions in order to be marked a dictator. The worst dictators are often the ones that history remembers as Dictators. The best are the ones hiding behind that veil of innocence - the appearance of magnanimity.

Soft totalitarianism is when people submit themselves voluntarily to all-encompassing control, rather than being crushed into it by a dictator / militarist regime.

your point being? :conf: you think i give two s about what my govt did before i was born?

Your heritage is gov't sponsored kidnapping and race delineation. We had slavery here in the USA and aren't real proud of the fact these days, but you had slavery as well. But in sum, we never went to the extremes that you sick f*cks did.

You might not give two s about what your gov't did in the past, but what two s are they doing today that we should pay attention to? Y'all seem to be a major background player in any world affairs.

But the topic has everything to do with war. "National security" is one of the most frequent excuses that executives use to seize more power.

"excuses" ?

what exactly do you think these bodies "sieze" more power for, if war or terrorism is just a pretence?

um, so super tuesday is just a ruse by the president to make you THINK youre in a liberal democracy? :p

sorry, but as long as you have free and fair elections you can't start throwing around terms like "totalitarian", soft or not ;)
MrJiveBoJingles
"Excuse" was a poor choice. "Justification" is more neutral and appropriate.

tell that to the native americans. i would suggest deliberately spreading disease to kill off the indigenous population would go alongside that rather well, wouldnt you agree?

No, it doesn't. The article is about new forms of I.D.'s

But to answer your post anyway; To what end is this supposed "seizing of power" that you imagine, happening for?

Where is "Big Brother" going with this?

Do you see some Grand Conspiracy afoot? Will it be alleviated if and when a Democrat comes to the Oval Office?

You can't make blanket statements like; "Big Brother is out to get you!" without showing me WHY they are. I don't think that even Politicians are dumb enough to waste their time "seizing more power" if it leads to no specific goal or end result for them. That's like saying "I'm going to breathe more heavily, because air is free and I can!"

No, don't necessarily need another thread to answer foolish questions. How do you deliberately spread disease? Like I walk over there and hand it to you or something? Believe Indians got flu and like symptoms which devasted them hard since they were brought over from England and they had no immunity. We get the same problem with infectious flu in the Army this time of year with soldiers arriving daily to Reception Battalions from all over the US, Puerto Rico, Panama, and Guam, and being placed in tight quarters where those diseases can rapidly spread.

Australia is a minor player in world affairs. You come across thinking your country is equal to a superpower, when in fact you're only small 'taters. Live with it or move.

I wish more people in this country would have that attitude. Crying about the past (ANCIENT past), serves no one.

No. Your assumptions are showing.

I made such a statement?

I don't think anything specific is "afoot," and I'm not even that worried about my own personal liberty, since I'm not a very radical kinda guy. I just don't particularly trust anyone to wield the huge amounts of power that some politicians are claiming for themselves, especially since they've done a piss-poor with what power they have. Or do you want to say that the American adventures down in Guantanamo are all peachy-keen?

Don't listen to no dumbass Cajun. Anyone who had sense has since popped smoke and moved away from that mudhole after the hurricane. Ones that are left will challenge Mississippi and Alabama for national stupidy scores in Elementary and High School tests. We will no longer be able to declare "Thank God for Mississippi" in a year or two.
