JUNIOR BOYS
DJ Set

World class talent from our own backyard, the Junior Boys defy any easy equation of pop or dance, joining a long tradition of sonically rich electronic music that unites emotionally charged song-craft with forward-thinking beats. Through their albums, EPs and remixes, Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus have broken new ground for electro-pop, blending heartfelt vocals with a production style that owes a debt to artists as varied as Timbaland, Fennesz and the Basic Channel school. Their highly-acclaimed sophomore album, “So This Is Goodbye” was nominated for the 2007 Polaris Music prize, and saw them tour the world to the delight of adoring fans. Now venturing into the DJ booth, they've just completed the latestmix for Get Physical's renowned Body Language series – so don't miss this special performance from Matt and Jeremy as they take control for a journey through their favorite house, techno, disco, electro and beyond.

BLUETECH
Live

Combining his classical music training with peerless software programming skills, Bluetech's love of the melodic and exquisite sound design make him one of the most cited electronica producers today. Encompassing musical touches from around the globe, he presents a transcendent blend that crosses genres and borders with his primordial electro-dub grooves. Since his first album broke on Waveform in 2003, he's toured extensively through Asia, Europe and the Americas while continuing to release on Aleph Zero and his own Native State imprint. Working on numerous projects and launching his new Somnia label from Portland, Oregon, Bluetech graces us with a rare live set incorporating his very latest productions.

DEREK PLASLAIKO
DJ Set

Poised at the vanguard of North American techno DJs, Derek Plaslaiko quietly paid his dues in Detroit as a crucial piece of the legendary Analog parties - and eventually as a resident at the legendary Motor night club. His versatile and tasteful sets steadily increased his demand on the Midwestern club circuit, where he shared the stage with luminaries such as John Acquaviva, Kevin Saunderson, Ricardo Villalobos and Matthew Herbert. After being invited by Carl Craig to perform at the inaugural edition of the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Plaslaiko became part of the original team of DJs at Detroit’s Untitled parties, sharing a residency with Tadd Mullinix and Matthew Dear. In 2004, Derek set up camp in New York City, determined to bring a slice of the Motor City to the Big Apple. He's gone on to become one of the resident DJs at the Bunker in Brooklyn, as well as an integral part of the monthly Wolf+Lamb parties, and was honored in the Village Voice 2006 annual poll as New York’s Best Techno DJ. Currently on tour for Spectral Sounds, don't miss his first Toronto performance in far too long.

EVAN MARC
Live

Bluetech's minimal tech-house alter ego has been earning a reputation in the techno world for his sublime dance floor productions with a distinct emotive focus. His exceptional rhythmic geometries balanced by keen melodic elements evoke kinetic audio sculptures impelling you to move, while his cutting-edge digital techniques and uncompromising musicality lead to a unique artistic vision expressed through irresistible grooves. With releases on Sentient Sound, Psybooty and a forthcoming full-length on Thoughtless Music, Evan Marc is a producer to watch out for in 2008 - and this live set will prove exactly why.

ILL GATES

The latest incarnation of Da Phat Conductor is set to rock the party with the freshest glitch-hop, dubstep and low-slung digital monster funk. Abusing his laptop with the latest performance techniques, he's sure to get the dance floor heaving.

NOAH PRED

This West Coast transplant and Fukhouse resident has been making waves since he arrived in Toronto just over two years ago. Keeping busy with new productions in the studio while running the Thoughtless imprint with Evan Marc, Noah brings a sophisticated techno sound to the decks with his signature smooth mixing style.

CHOCOLATE & PATRICK ROOTS

These two have been representing Toronto's dub underground for over a decade with their weekly radio shows and nights throughout the city. Let them melt away the winter chill with pure love from the bassbins.

ANDYCAPP

One half of the infamous Gang of Two, Andycapp has built a steady following with his monthly Bang the Party events. From spacey nu-disco to chunky down-tempo house, Andy's lush sounds are sure to please.

ALICIA HUSH

Quickly rising through Toronto's techno ranks with her solid sets of steamy percussion and percolating minimal grooves, Alicia brings a soft touch to the decks that we think you'll find most welcome on the dance floor.

HALI

One of the city's hardest-working DJs, Hali's much-loved modern take on house music incorporates elements of techno and plenty of swing. Bringing his special Box of Kittens vibe, Hali's closing set will keep you on the dance floor well past your bedtime.

Derek Plaslaiko has not one, but two podcasts out this month.

From Resident Advisor, one of the world's authority on techno and dance music, comes a stellar mix:

RA 092 - Derek Plaslaiko

The other is from Earplug Magazine's "Live from the Bunker" series. With mixes like these, New York's unsung techno hero won't stay unsung for long. This two-part, five-hour session brings together the best of old and new techno, so seamlessly mixed that history collapses upon itself.

Bunker Podcasts

Also, Canada's Exclaim magazine has just reviewed the Junior Boys new mix CD, Body Language 6 on Get Physical.
