What about Apocalyptica?
You could find something equally as creative, but electronic. You mentioned the cello being present in other genres, but since there isn't a memorable presence, would you give some examples?
All I can think of are still mostly acoustic but not necessarily orchestral, with maybe the exception of Apocalyptica. Ken Oak Band does use some guitar effects, but is still mostly identifiable as cello.
Maybe some of the issue stems from other instruments such as violins overshadowing the cello. I know right now I can list more violinists than I can cellists (but that could also be because I have played violin). Also, the normal range of the cello may not lend itself well to some genres of music. Just a thought. |
