I used to play 200+ a year, but now i'm down to about 25-50. Priorities change...

In 50 to 100 range and doing it part time when my normal job doesn't get in way. About 45% of em are weddings and school dances for me. Then rests is clubs or house parties and all. Just got back form house party I did today to rich kid house and I rocked his socks off yet again so he keeps calling me for 2 a month and love going there because nobody usually bugs me when mixing and all. The kids 12 and all. Good part is my cousin's 15 year old son always comes to help me out because it get him near this chick he digs lol.

Best part of em all I get praises from his parents because it keep him and his friends off the street from doing drugs and getting into trouble.

I'd say 25-50 counting house parties, but I wouldnt really count them as gigs now.

I also find it much more rewarding and fun to pick and choose parties to play at and not take gigs just for the of it or "experience".

Definitely agree. A string of bad "experience-building" gigs can really take the wind out of your sails and make you lose some faith in what you're doing.

It's important to try and find some balance between being open-minded and eager for opportunities and not signing-up for spots where you don't really fit in.

between 15-25. going to start presenting a radio show at my uni as of next week though which should be good.

i average about 3 gigs a week

some weeks i'll pull 5, others 2

i've been going strong in the scene for about 5 years, i've been into it total about 7 or 8 years now

edit:

oh yea, i also live off my earnings right now, i'm going to be getting a day job soon though, sitting around during the week going through music is fun and all, but i like getting out of the house
EvilTree
Avg about 1 a month

DJs are like spare pennies... So hard to get gigs :( (and I'd have none, except for few friends who actually think I'm good for reason) :)

yeah, ill only play gigs i think would be fun. and there's only 2 events in my city a month that i would ever be asked to play at, and right now i only play at 1 of them. 60 mins of uplifting trance isn't everyone's cup of tea so i wont be taking my state by storm any time soon :toothless

and when you have the whole 9-5 grind thing going, getting motivated to stay up til 4 on a friday night can be a bit tough.

Last year was a much better year for me than this has been thus far. Things in Chicago have been in this kind of transition phase where nights just aren't as packed as they used to be unless it's a relatively "big name" or a well known local - unfortunately the most well attended nights still seem to be epic cheese/polish trance.

Last year I probably played a couple times a month (about), opened for Dekay and Funk D'Void (and a few others) - but it has not been as good the past few months, though I also don't put in face time at clubs/with promoters just to get gigs at this point.

DJ'ing is still just something I feel grateful to have done out as much as I have to this point, and think I will always do - I just don't have the same desire to get whatever gig I can anymore. I push for the ones I want, and don't worry about the rest.

:)

A radio show once a week, plus if i sub for people so that is 52 weeks a year + like 8 subs a year to make it a good number

and i play on weekends at house party's once every 2 months maybe (id rather be at the party then spin at the party =P)

and a paid gig once a month maybe.

so thats like
