Why would you need to call me? You've done a perfectly good job yourself of derailing your own review thread... |
lol I may have derailed it, but you keep bumping it. Thanks for coming out. :haha: |

It's safe to say the thread would have been bumped to the top again given the fact that there isn't a single review of the ing music yet.
I heard Jeff played good... JEFF, ANYONE? Is anyone going to talk about the party? lol |

LOL , the complete derailment of this thread is hilarious.
Well, here is my brief review of Friday night @ Mod Club.......
I arrived to the club a half hour early, to perform the usual sound checks, but also to get accustomed to the mixer Vibe had requested - the Rane (six channel rotary). After giving it a few tests with the booth monitors, I ventured down to the dancefloor to discover we had no sound on the dance floor. It was now five minutes before the doors were to open, and panic began to set in. The sound guys came to check it out as they did before I arrived, and were puzzled.
It is now 11:05, and the line outside is all the way down to the street corner. We needed to let people in... but still, had no sound on the floor. They decided to pop in a mix cd (from the sound booth), and eventually found that there was a short in the wiring to the main.... and at 11:15, the curtains opened, and I received a somewhat sarcastic ovation (lol - thanks guys), and the night began.
Opening for Vibe was different for me on so many levels. By far he is the most recognized (both in Toronto, and globally), out of all the dj's I've opened for to date - but also, he plays a sound that I am not accustomed to opening for. I think this was the most exciting element for me, as I could try something different than the norm. Early on I wanted to set the tone with some dark, moody, prog & tech-house, and since I was only slated to play one hour - I kept it pretty tame until midnight. I received word that Vibe actually wanted me to play until 12:30 or so, and at that point I began to pick up the tempo and intensity.
The club had a lot of energy in the early stages, and by 12:30 I sensed the crowd was anticipating Vibe... so for the next 45 minutes, I just started dropping the big ones (lol). I hadn't anticipated playing this long, or this deep into the night - so my choices were limited. The floor was moving in full force by 1:15, and at that point Vibe was ready to take over and murder the place......
Vibe's opening was done in his typical fashion. Melodic, slowed down tempo, that really grabs everyones attention... during this time in the night, you could really feel the energy building up in the room. By 2am, he was really using the EFX1000 to his advantage. Massive build-ups that just grabbed everyone in the building by the balls, that sent them into a frenzy. There were quite a few 'WTF IS THIS' moments during his set, where everyone seemed to just have a puzzled look on their faces wondering what the hell was going on (in a good way, of course. lol). This continued on right through his set, and into the early hours of the morning. I enjoyed his set more this time around than his last visit to EXPOSED.
Overall, a bizarre, eventful night that ended up being a top notch party. Although, I think I may have walked out of Mod with a few grey hairs..... |

as per usual. Mod club was good times.
Jeff was excellent :) and Vibe while not quite at the level I've heard before was also very very good. I think i got my moneys worth. |

ok I actually sat thru this! and I wasnt really feeling it besides that Son of Raw tune and the one that followed it (despite the lame-o vocals in it). was it the sound I was expecting? yes kind of in the sense that I was expecting a sound that imo I consider to be flat and one that didnt do much for me. :p

Im sure there are crossover tunes that they both play all the time. Lawler might even be playing that Peter Bailey rmx
seeing as he was the first one to pimp his tunes amongst the big boys and has released his music b4 under his Harlem labels (http://www.discogs.com/artist/Peter+Bailey) but it hardly means they sound the same. I mean just because Victor Calderone is playing a track that some of the Berlin techno brigade are rocking in their sets does not mean their sounds are really similar. The difference between them is the stuff Victor plays that you'd never hear in a Dice or Luciano set and vice versa. Same goes for Lawler + Vibe. nawwwwwwwwwww mean |

Yeah, I wish I made it to the recent Resolution new year's eve party in Montreal and could seen/heard for myself. Would have been really interesting to see what DJ Vibe played just before Lawler came on at the massive.
Anyway, I only browsed that thread in the Montreal forum, but a few concluded that DJ Vibe schooled Lawler that night!
edit: Jeff did you record your set and Vibe's? |

i saw Lawler play there on NYE a couple of years ago as well and I was pretty unimpressed! so I bailed early to go to Aria ... where Danny Howells ripping it.

I appreciate the effort, man. Seriously. Your reward: I am buying you a case of beer. No joke. I'll find a way to deliver it before the weekend. lol
And, for the record, I agree with most of your other comments. ;) |
