I hear ontrack are one of the best.
Having 2 drives is a good idea. I do this with mine. Data on a 200gb and Applications on a 80GB so I can format whenever I need to.
All that said anthony do you know if $2000 warrants your work? Im guessing yes. |

| ontrack gave me the same bullchit.. not repairable, in my opinion i think they just can't be arsed with too much work since they probably have enough work as it is |

well i got the report back today, $1,650 to fix my drive. it lists the problems with my drive as:
Problems / Failures:
Multiple read errors located throughout the platter surface(s).
Possible file structure damage.
Corruption of the media's file indexing structure.
Intermittent electrical failures associated with the read/write head assembly.
-- i've found some ways to get this paid for and get my new computer for a fraction of the cost. all in all, this was still a $2,000 disaster but thankfully i'm not absorbing as much as originally planned. |

I already wrote about raid before.
I personally decided to go with 3 Drives in my System plus an External Drives and Backups on DVD.
I have on 160 Gig Samsung Drive that has Windows and Ubuntu on it plus my "Studio Core" Partition that has all the audio software installed.
My other two drives are 320 Gig Samsungs, which run in Raid-mirroring mode. This means that all data is written on both drives. If one breaks, I can use the other.
This drive has all my work on it, my booking, my music, my productions and so on.
Plus I secure all the important data on an external drive and I secure the ULTRA-important data onto DVD also. |
