| I still want to go to Dubai also I didn't think tourism was their biggest industry. There is a lot of trade that goes on there... Also I heard the number of cranes a country has indicates their economic success and Dubai has more than any other area so poppy seeds or not UAE is going places. |

AFAIK, there aren't any casinos in Dubai.
You can't even stay outside because of the heat.
There is no street life or urban experience to speak of, except for maybe the old city.
Most of the high rise hotels are not even finished, and are built for "projected tourism".

overpriced shopping
business meetings
conventions
overpriced shopping
virtual golf
spa treatment
hideous disney-esque buildings
5 chrysler building copies
2 citicorp center copies
a disgusting display of wealth designed by every famous architecture firm on the planet

their new biggest industry (which they are accomplishing with the money from their old big industry - oil) is buying stock in beaten up western companies in an attempt to legitimize the country on an international scale. |
