consider yourself lucky they even plowed your streets.

mine are still covered in snow.

Ya, was at the gf's house in north york (just off of bathurst and steeles) and by sunday evening her street still was un-plowed! (ie. NOT EVEN ONCE)

she lives on a cresent though (ie. not a thru street), so i guess it pretty much just has NO priority by the city, even though its a fairly large cresant. the street her cresant is off of was plowed fairely decently.

w/o my snowtires, id FOR SURE have gotten stuck a million times on her damn street.

and by sunday all that bumped rocky hill slush turn to ROCK HARD ICE... so driving a car down her street on sunday was like driving thru a rock bed, i swear.

ahhhh, makes me love collingwood where ALL our streets are plowed, and very quicly (save for last thurs MAJOR dumping when it took till that night to hit some non-thru streets)

i think that's nothing compared to what i deal with everyday parking on the street cuz i don't have a driveway. i wish i had your problems.

i can only imagine. thats just a crappy situation to have to contend w/ in general in the winter. :S

they can have a second truck that cleans the street after the first one like i described (and i did see it on many occasions when they had a second plow clear it in toronto/north york, i'm in richmond hill).

but then your property taxes will increase and you'll have to start a thread crying about that to :p

They do that in downtown Toronto. No room for snow banks!

I'm serious, I'll try to dig up some pix.

And YES! Thanks for illustrating what I was trying to describe, those pix you posted are dead on. So efficient.

Regarding the snowmelter, yeah, the PD-350 http://www.snowmelters.com/product_350-PD.htm is the latest Toronto bought for $800,000.

they actually try to do it on all streets but it takes weeks to get to some of the suburbs. by the time they get to some of the side streets it's springtime! lol.

they do it for every street in Montreal, small or big. The longest it took was 8 days after a huge snowstorm (40cm) and it made the headlines for being slow:p

i remember the city had a snow melter called Metromelt
i saw it turn kingston road into a raging river after the infamous storm

Thing is half the time what's on the picture is by far not the worst. After every snowstorm we end up cleaning our driveway 4 times. As far as I am concerned it should be two times - once to clean your driveway and second time after they clean the streets and leave some of the snow along your driveway.
But for some reason in our area they never clean the whole street in one shot. First time they don't leave snow right at the entrance to the driveway, but rather one meter before, so we end up cleaning the street to get out. Next day another plow comes back and whatever other people did not clean - it pushes it already to driveways. Another thing is they always do it at least two days after the snow storm when it's not snow anymore - just bricks of ice.
This happens even in Toronto, at my gf's house plow pushed the snow not to driveways, but rather one meter before, the snow froze overnight and nobody can clean it anymore with a regular shovel, so the whole street with few exceptions is driving over this little ice hill now to get on their driveway. Few cars got stuck this morning trying to get out and I am coming back there tonight with the ice breaker.

You should complain, in this god forsaken country, nothing gets done if the citizen doesn't complain.

Our curb was_never cleared, it was unwalkable and we had to wait till they completely removed the snow (see pictures above). I complained to the city and low and behold, they now pass right after every snow drop.
