so ur saying nubreed, grayarea, hybrid, crystal method, chemical brothers and so on when they do "live" gigs, its all fake?
jeez the original comments just make that guy look more and more like an egomaniac...
if ur one person, u cant do live sequencing as theres too many elements to handle simultaneously...hence why people have pre set midi sequences and loops
in addition, carrying around multiple hardsynths is a bitch.... |
bro personally i've never seen these guys "live" so im not sure wat they do.....
and during said live set im not and im sure ur not in the dj booth with them seeing them build there songs almost from scratch....
building a song almost from scratch thats what i think "live" should mean....
dont get me wrong i give props to djs using ableton and the efx-1000 in there set....
im no expert on this subject but thats my 2cents.... |

I fully agree with him 100%
As a live musician first, and then becoming a producer and dj later, I've always been amazed at what some people call 'live p.a.'s' or live.
True live performances are about taking risks and creating something in the moment -- 90% of the people out there doing 'live' electronic shows are not taking any risks or creating anything new -- they are just playing back pre-recorded files and tweaking certain elements... i've always said -- with dj'ing or live shows -- I would rather hear some mistakes and know that you are trying to give us a real performance, than hear a perfect show that you have played 50 times before.
Now don't get me wrong -- I think Ableton is a GREAT live tool -- because it really gives you so many ways to interact with the music -- something that excited me so much when it first came out. As a jazz musician, it was the first piece of equipment that I felt one could really improvise with. But most producers don't even try! I can't tell you how many times I've seen 'live' shows where the person is just playing back songs as full single audio files -- not separate loops! How can you interact and call it 'live' of they are already complete songs -- ALL YOUR DOING IS ANOTHER FORM OF DIGITL DJ'ING -- ITS NOT LIVE. |

it gives us true ableton gig-ers a bad name...it really does...people think "oh well its so easy mixing with ableton, hes not a dj" and of course if all ur doing is mixing, then the off cos theres a million things u can do with ableton and the only person ive seen use ableton to its fullest extent in a live gig is BT (yes not even sasha...) |
