WTF - legal technicality? This legal technicality happens to be something that protects your freedom as a human being - as a person. If you don't like it, you might want to check out countries where habeas corpus isn't the law.

The "Very sure" part - if you are so sure the person has drugs/weapons - go to the judge, and get a warrant. If your argument convinces the judge, you have a case. If your argument doesn't convince the judge, let it go.

This is a good bust for the police, but for the Canadian Judicial system to bend the law saying that it's OK to perform an illegal search is quite frightening. I'm indifferent about this decision... Letting a guy go along with 35 keys of coke vs the judges bending the law... hmmm.....

who gives a ...im all for the courts allowing illegal searches and evidence if it brings idiots to justice. this guy belong in jail for 10-20 years for having that much coke on him, u know hes a dealer...hes a piece of , a waste in our society, so throw him in jail and throw away the key.

b/c sometimes police have to break the law in order to bring someone to justice that deserves to be in jail that may otherwise legally get away.

and i support police who have good intentions and break the law to do so...i dont support s commiting a crime and justifying it b/c a cop does it with good intentions.

just b/c they do it, doesnt justify u to do it as well. they did it to bring a coke dealer to justice, ur doing it for ur own personal gain and greed, nothing more.

So what if you arent doing anything wrong and the cops come in and illegally search your house, ripping things apart, pointing guns in your family's faces etc? Would you not give a then?? Search warrants exist for a reason. It's to prevent malicious activity by those who are meant to serve us. Remember that cops are human too, and they are corruptable just as we all are. This is why we need to maintain rules under the charter (which is a flawed document in itself but its all we have right now) in our society for everyone including the police themselves. A country where the police have absolute power is not a country i want to live in. My family came to this country precisely to get away from that kind of society.

absolute power corrupts absolutely

by all records, police states aren't very pleasant places to live in

And the more that people accept this behaviour, the worse it will get.

Sometimes i really fear for our great country because due to selfishness, it doesnt seem that people really care about principles that are designed to ensure our society operates as it should.

People are too focused on whats in it for them in the short term. Policies like illegal search will come back and bite you even if "you arent doing anything wrong." Eventually the laws will change so that you are doing something wrong. Or, if there are no judicial laws, it may be hard to prove that you are innocent even when you are. After all, if police arent forced to follow the law, they can do anything they please while you are still contrained to the laws placed on you in the judicial system. Hardly seems fair does it?

Also, there is a funny thing about laws.... often they are designed to force you to do something wrong such as artificial speed limits and parking restrictions. Of course this happens not for "your safety" but to make money. What if this carries over into other more serious aspects of governmental law? (which it has but thats another jerry springer show)
