Ok, I am trying to buy my husband a digital DJ system for his bday (tomorrow - no I am not a bad wife. He is away for business and comes back Friday so we are not celebrating until Saturday so I have time and he is IMPOSSIBLE to shop for!). Ok, not that that is out of the way =), need your help. What should I buy? I found the following but dont know if it is supposed to be good / good brand, etc. Any insight would be helpful:
ION Audio iCUE MP3 Computer Music Mixing Station with Software (http://www.amazon.com/ION-Computer-...02918097&sr=8-1)
I am not trying to spend more that $200. He is also not a professional DJ - just LOVES music and would love to mix / play around at home...
Need to order today so any insight would help.
Thanks! |

I'd recommend M-Audio's X-Session Pro. It's a "mixer" that comes with a paired down version of a professional DJ software called Torq which will let him mix on the computer using mp3s. If he wants to upgrade later, he'll still be able to use the X-Session Pro with other computer software.
It's about 100.00 bucks online, and maybe cheaper new on eBay.

Or if you want to get a little fancier you could get the Xponent also by M-Audio that comes with the full version of Torq and has more features like "jog wheels" you can use like classic vinyl turntables. It's more expensive though at around 400 at the lowest.

| Thanks for the M-Audio plug. Any words / comments on the iDJ? Is X Session better? |

Are you referring to the IPOD mixer? IF you're gonna go with it, get the IDJv2 because you only need 1 IPod and it has pitch control.
I'd recommend against it though. |

Yea, stick with the M-Audio. Better hardware/software, even if the X-Session may not look as flashy.
*EDIT* you can also check out the Numark Total Control DJ, but I have no experience with that one. Stay away from the Behringers though. |

I just won an auction for an M-Audio X-Session Pro. Been using the sequencer in ableton and mixmeister for a few years... now we'll see how real mixing goes. Other than ableton and the M-Audio mixer is there any other basic devices that I need to start learning how to mix?

| I wonder what she got him? All this buildup and no payoff. It's like blue balls. :toothless |
