Platipus Records...still alive (and better than ever)!

Paradox Lost
...but apparently came exceedingly close to closing up shop after a series of unfortunate setbacks. Considering that the website had been down for many weeks, and that single releases were becoming more and more of a rarity over over the past couple of years, I had suspected Platipus was on its last leg. Well, just caught their newsletter, with an update on their status and some really exciting news:

quote:
You may have heard, our distributor Amato Distribution went bankrupt in Nov 2007. We were homeless over christmas but instead of packing up and giving in we now have a new distributor and more releases than ever for 2008.

Other forthcoming releases this year include...
Tales Of The Unexpected Volume 3 Mixed by Hardfloor, Art Of Chill Volume 5 Mixed by Bent, Addicted Volume 3.

We can't quite believe it but we are also planning to create a monster ....

'In 1996 Amorphous Androgynous AKA Future Sound Of London recorded the now legendary and globally bootlegged (although extremely hard to find) ISDN mix “ A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble (Exploding In Your Mind)”.

In 2008 Platipus will be releasing a series of compilations which will take this project to even greater legendary status..

************ PLATIPUS NEWSFLASH ************

We are pleased to announce the return of the mighty

UNION JACK (LIVE)

They return with a very special appearance at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami on Saturday 29th March 2008. This is part of the Winter Music Conference. Further details to be announced.

Wait, are they going to release FSOL stuff? Maybe remixes? If someone didn't know already, they are releasing now progressive/psyrock on Harvest (Pink Floyd's label).

That Union Jack sounds interesting also

By the way, I neglected to add this, which may be of importance to some of you:

WARNING! WARNING! We are now down to the last few copies of most of the vinyl releases available in our shop. Once these are gone there will be no more available to order from www.platipus.com. Make sure your collection is complete!

Definitely. Their first couple of releases (especially Simon's own stuff) were great, and although there was better and much harsher acid trance on the market back then, Platipus always had that unique and glorious sound. Their later stuff is, however, awful, except for some releases by Oliver Lieb, Pob and Terra Ferma. So I'm not really excited about these news..

They released a compilation last year called Platipus Addicted Volume 2 which was nothing like what they usually sound like.

It was pure utter e.

Hope they don't continue down this path.

The take over of Platipus!
Hope they bring out some amazing stuff this year.
