I was reading an article somewhere that said there will be a new blueray format and that the PS3 was the only safe player to buy because it can be upgraded to work with the format. The other standalone players are gonna be screwed.

your reading was off. the blu-ray spec hasnt been fully finalized nor released. the only part that is final is the video encoding . the rest of it, the xtras, games, internet capabilites, are all still in development. the ps3 is the only one that is able to be software upgraded to support all this...or so they say. im sure that the others can be also. |

I don't think so. Prices will only go down; prices would only go up if additional features were offered. Otherwise it would turn a load of people off and make Sony look like a bunch of money-grubbing opportunistic bastards (which they already are, but this would stain their brand reputation a bit too much imo). |
