2) all of your files will open. Keep in mind that many 3rd party plugins don't have their mac equivalent (those made with synthedit or synthmaker for example).

3) RAM... lots of them. Get at least 2gigs but most preferably 4 if you can.

4) No, but undirectly, a more hassle-free system (because no viruses, no spyware, and less install problems) leaves you more concentration on your stuff. I must admit that XP changed things a lot in the last years, but don't you get Vista only with a new comp now?

If I were you, I'd get an iMac 20". I know, it may not be as powerful as a quad core mac pro, but it'll spare you a lot of money that you can invest on 4 gigs RAM,plugins and softsynths! This is what I have here, and iMac replaced a monster G5 that I paid twice the price of that iMac back then.

With Logic you can run up to 16, so I say, go for 16 Gigas!!! :P
Windows based DAWS cant only handle 4 though, Cubase, not sure about the rest.

Kopi =o.

Just placed my order for a Mac Pro quad core. I'm entering the Mac world now.

Now placing my order for two more gigs of ram.

Thanks for the help.

So I got my Mac yesterday. Took off from work early to start the whole transition. I was actually shocked at how quickly I got stuff set-up... I recall switching from one PC to another and setting everything up was quite a pain in the ass... not so much with the Mac. Just about everything is "plug it in and it should work." An example was the Axiom - 11 steps to install for Windows and I didn't see the Mac instructions... was thinking WTF? Then I realized the instructions were one sentence: Plug it in and turn it on.

Still getting used to the OS - finding stuff will come easier, but right now I'm looking for specific things I'm used to and have to click around (is there a quicker way to get to "My Computer" and a damn "Desktop" button that minimizes all window?). Plus I keep going to the top right corner to minimize windows and keep pressing Ctrl C and Ctrl V, which does nothing apparently. :) Still working on these "Command" shortcuts.

Anyway, really happy about the purchase. I wasn't expecting it to be so HEAVY and QUIET! Have to relocate plugins (the ones I can salvage), add some more USB and Firewire to the machine, and I'm set up. The XPS is on its way back to Dell and I'm not regretting it right now. :) Appreciate the feedback.

Pay system prefs a visit.

exposé and spaces are perfect for that. Spaces is Leopard-only. Exposé can get rid on all windows (enable the active corners) or minimizes them all so you can select which one you want to work in. Spaces... is a virtual desktop. You enable it, then press ctrl-right arrow to select your space. Then there's a customizable button/key that lets you see all of your desktops and you can select active windows and make them travel between your spaces. Useful!!

Awesome - exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

If you're not used to the MAC, it'll probably take about 6 months before you're as used to the Mac OS as you are with Windows.

No. It took me less than a week to feel comfortable and get used to it.

I think I'm ok navigating now... I picked up Mac OSX Leopard for Dummies and that's been a tremendous help. I know there is a lot undiscovered for me - but that's helping.

By the way... I'm about to upgrade the home use laptops in the house. Probably going Mac... love the OS!
