This is mostly for the well-travelled folks.
There is the very slight possibility that I might be taking a trip to Amsterdam sometime in early April, as a sort of "I've wrested back my freedom and my inalienable human rights from the US Government" gift to myself, depending on cost and whether or not I succeed, of course. Should this fortuitous event occur, I know nothing of the EDM scene in Amsterdam (never clubbed there), so what are the best EDM hot-spots in Tulip-Town? |

My friends from Manual Music always play at Patronaat (patronaat.nl) and Haarlem. Here's a list for you...
A magazine in Holland (Nieuwe Revue) just had a voting amongst their readers what is (to them) the best club in Holland...

| I really really loved Xtra Large which is in Amsterdam. that place was huge and the party rocked. check my myspace pics, click on amsterdam, and there are some pics of the club in there. The starlight ceiling in the first room was just mind blowing. |

| and when the club closes at like 8 or 10am, and you are still wanting to party, then there is the afterclub Lexion which is right down the road from Xtra Large |

I went to see Randy Katana play there. Bad ass party. And all the party fliers I picked up seemed to have many big events going on there. Many of the big big name fliers were for events going on at big venues that were not clubs. |

No, that was at the Sex Museum which is in central Amsterdam near the train station. bad ass place to check out. not only is there giant penises, but there are crazy old sex toys that were used back in the day, and tons of oldie porn all over the walls. Oh and when you walk by this statue of a guy in a trench coat, he will open and flash you his peepee. TeeHee! lol |

xtra large isn't a tourist spot either. It's no where near the center from what I remember. My best friend has lived on the outskirts of amsterdam for 7 years, so I was lucky for him to take me to the local hangouts. Some didn't even know much English, and everyone approached me speaking Dutch. I was pretty freaked out at first - lol.
But yeah, the sex museum is in the center, so it's a touristy thing. Anything in the center is going to be touristy and have many english speaking people in it.

Too bad you are going in early april and not mid-late april. First off, Armin is having his biggest show of the year(april 19th), Armin Only, in Jaarbeurs, Utrecht, which is very close to Amsterdam.

Well at the end of April is Queensday which is a majorly huge holiday in NL. All the businesses close and there are parties everywhere and all through the big streets.
A great site to visit is http://www.partyflock.nl the big downfall is you need to know a little Dutch to make your way around the site. But it is the biggest NL site for party events and meeting party people that live there. I'm a member there and have made friends and also met them in person. This is the place to find everything you need to know. If you make your way to the forums, and let them know you only speak english, they will speak back english to you and tell you whatever you want to know. They are super nice and really like to help. My first time on that site, everyone was like, "Come here, we will show you a REAL DUTCH PARTY!" lol and that they really did - most of them were at xtra large.
Anyways, if you can't make your way around the site, i'll give you a straight link to all the events going on in the month of April. There are a gazillion of them. Keep in mind that this is for NL and might even be some Belguim events there too. So look for the locations near Amsterdam.

a lil help:
zondag = sunday
maandag = monday
dinsdag = tuesday
woensdag = wednesday
donderdag = thursday
vrijdag = friday
zaterdag = saturday
to the very right is the location, and the second from the right is the name of the club. click on the event name to see all the djs playing, and it also shows how many on partyflock are planning to go to that party. There may even be pictures from last year's event. Be sure to check to see if it's a "sexy" party or not because there may be some strict dress codes. Some places don't allow jeans. Some places require vinyl and fetish clothes only - so make sure you do your research on the place and event first. Cause if you walk up to the doorman, and he doesn't like you, you are kicked out. btw, the bouncers there are big and mean, so don't piss them off. The ones here are nothing compared to NL bouncers. They will literally throw you out onto the pavement. Cooperate with them at the door when they do checks...you'll need to empty your pockets onto a table, and take off your coat. some even require you to take off your shoes. They will feel you up, so if you are planning to take in some tabs, it seems that all the guys hide them in their nuts ;) If you are caught with anything, they mostly make you just throw it out, and they don't kick you out of the club. drugs are pretty easy going there. bring plenty of Euro change, because pretty much every bathroom there in the club charges 50 cents to use them. |
