Lately I've been into softer trance songs with less of a build up. such as:
Ogenki Clinic - First Light
Albion - Air
Art of trance - Monsoon
Moogwai - Viola (original mix)
Impact - Inspiration
Just chill, evening starter songs. What type of trance is this? It really is about the waves passing by, rather then two strong hits. Can someone recommend more songs like this? I would like to call it melodic trance, but I'm not so sure... |

I'd call it ambient trance?
Try tunes wiht great intros like delerium - silence, aria one - dido (AvB mix)
alternatlively do a search for a thread by me called Best Introductions in Tunes |

Yea, I also would call it melodic trance.
If you are looking for softer trance/chill-out stuff then try these:
Adam Dived - Deep Inside
Adam Dived - Into Sea
Art of Trance Kilimanjaro (Adam Dived remix)
Art of Trance (Voice of Earth Album)
BBE - Seven days and one week
William Orbit & Beth Orton - Water from a wineleaf
Arf of Noise - Moments in Love |

heh heh ... a lot of the trance from 92 were in this vein ... before sellouts turned it into the 4/4 stompers that you hear today (need i mention a certain individual's name? heh heh).
by the way, have to point out that the "water from a vine leaf" mixes that you want are the ones by spooky ... "xylem flow" and "acid bath" ... i don't think the ones by underworld or the original album version have the sound you are looking for.
mystic force "frontiers" album on MFS 1994 might be your ticket. look for the double CD version because i think the second disc is much better than the first.
also on MFS, effective force definitely has a dark/moody style that may appeal to you (eg. diamond bullet).
warp records coined the term "intelligent techno" which sort of applied to this genre way back but with all the different sounds now, probably isn't a very good moniker for it. |

| i wouldnt call it melodic trance, coz basically that brings up images of ferry and armin type stuff and it dont sound like that, id say dj mdma is right in ambient trance, you dont really have to define theres a melody there coz melodyless ambient stuff is usually mroe ambient techno type-do... ;) |

Well I would call Ferry & AVB epic/uplifting as well as melodic trance ;). For me ambient trance is stuff like Energy 52 - Cafe del Mar (Michael Woods remix) or Bedrock - Beautiful Strange. Art of Trance stylish trance is definitely more melodic than ambient trance but everyone has different opinions about these :). |
