Planning a Greece trip in the summer-any tips?..

Well I googled a bit of information but I would appreciate some TA perspective too, regarding the scene in the greek islands in the summer, for anyone who's been there.
I'm planning an island hopping trip (mykonos, santorini, ios) in either june or july.
does anyone know which would be the best month (s) to go for the best parties? also what spots are good for the music in any of these islands, what to expect in a club there, any outdoor events or parties that I should know about in the summer months, which month is the best in terms of not being unbearably hot etc.
also the typical cost of drinks and club admission etc. how much financial damage should I be bracing myself for since I'll be there for 2 weeks? :eyes: I'm trying to estimate that in advance...
any tips, input is appreciated |

| My wife and I are planning on being there towards the end of July. Check out Cavo Paradiso on Mykonos. Other than that I don't know . |

been a few years, can't think of everything but a few:
1. drive careful, sometimes people tip over on rented scooters and lose some skin and then can't go swimming, the white powder they put on the wounds glows under the clubs black lights etc.
2. digicam: the islands are beautiful, there is plenty of sunlight so pictures come out clear
3. should be plenty of great beaches, avoid the time around noon when the sun is very strong and use plenty of sunscreen even when your not at the beach.
4. the boat trips between islands can be long (athens - santorini can be like 5 hours i think depending on the boat) maybe buy or bring something to lay on and sleep.
5. don't think you can count on much being cheap - to sit at a cafe and drink a coffee and watch the sunset in santorini is probably like $10. |

definitely check out crete. i think it has the nicest beaches of any of the islands - not in a party sense, but more for natural beauty. stay on the southern coast for nicer beaches
id recommend 100% to rent a car on one of the islands you go to, maybe on one of the bigger ones (like crete). you can find beaches and cool hidden restaurants and stuff that you would never find otherwise!
and eat, lots! the food in greece is some of the best in the world ;) |

how are these ferries, are they accomodating in terms of seats etc, or are they small and crowded typically? might just take a blanket then, thanx for that tip and the others too
I probably won't rent a car since I'm going on one of those international group tours for young folk, so will be going around with the group pretty much. the hotels are pretty much near the beaches, so might just cab it with other people to get around. the santorini sunset is easily worth 10 euros i think, i read that it's more in some places for a great view |

the ferries are big, but when i was there they were very crowded as well. Some airline seating inside, some cafe/lounge seating but VERY smoky there, and benches outside. Also there are newer catamerang style boats that are smaller but much faster than the ferries, they cost more, and have indoor only airline seating.
if you were on your own driving around exploring i would maybe think of more stuff but if your with a tour group your probably all set. |

the catamarans are pretty much all you find nowadays, and they are all indoor seating but fast. |

crete does look great but it's a group tour with just 3 islands. santorini is the main one i wanted to visit anyway, and mykonos for the party scene. i'll definitely sample some good food down there, although i won't go so far as the octopus..:eyes:
when is a good month to go, is it really hot in july? i heard september is good to go too, but i want to go in a summery month, the earliest may.. |
