The lack of ability to exit the game to the main menu at any time is ing bull. Truly ing annoying.

Cut scenes are incredibly well done, but perhaps a bit too frequent in occurrence. The voice acting and writing for Kaim is also surprisingly bad when compared to the rest of the cast, which is frustrating because you want him so badly to be a badass, but he's pretty much been a pansy so far.

Still, so far, so good. I like the ring system quite a bit - but to this point of the game (4 or 5 hours) there has been very little of the game that has taken place in a town or other non-dungeon style area.

Funeral Mini Game: Both annoying and creepy.

Edit: And the amount of time the game requires you to play while being unable to save is simply unacceptable.

There is no excuse for any modern RPG, regardless of style, not to let you pick up and play/put it down when you need to. I've just had to sit through nearly 40 minutes of nonsense funeral storyline that was largely a bore while being unable to save.
CONNERMAN2000
I've never understood "save points" in any RPG. Why can't I just pause the game, select a save feature, and quit whenever I want? that.

Yeah, I'm right now in the middle of disk 2, and I do enjoy it a lot (any solid RPG is gonna get my attention!) although TBH I think I preferred Blue Dragon. Blue Dragon is a bit more focused on dungeon hacking and less on storyline/town exploration. I do like the Thousand Year Dreams, some very gripping and touching stories (although actually playing through these events would've been preferable to passively reading them!). Some of the Shadow Hearts team worked on this, and you can definitely tell (the mansion dungeon, and the whole character of Jansen)

My main complaints so far are awkward minigames (the funeral scene), the one stealth section halfway through disk 1, and excessive loading in battle. But the latter isn't too bad because thankfully, the encounter rate isn't that high.

I definitely recommend it for fans of the genre, though.

This game probably has some of the best writing I have ever seen in the history of gaming - the "1000 Years of Dreams" is written so well it's near unbelievable.

I don't know that stories in very many games have ever come close to this one, and that's conceding that a lot of the dialog is corny chit and that the main character is effectively Keanu Reeves.

Even considering that, it's brilliant. I am, however, starting to understand the mixed reviews for this game - the minor imperfections (framerate, save, loads of text, nothing innovative) do add up, and if you aren't sold on this style of game and can't find any aspect of the story that resonates with you, I can imagine people hating it.

Massively irritating point #2:

Any boss battle that includes you having to cast sleep on a target every other round so as not to kill them.

ing gimmick.

This game is a wannabe Final Fantasy. Not worth playing....play the real thing...Final Fantasy games. Sakaguchi lost his touch long time ago.

Cant wait for Final Fantasy 13!

That would mean a lot more if you actually had added anything to back up your statement, but as of right now I'm certain you've actually never even played the game.

Tough cookies - if you want to make blanket statements like that and not sound like a complete arse, maybe expand on them next time. Most folks (reviewers, gamers, etc.) seem to be of the opinion that what you're saying couldn't be further from the truth.

LO has a 79% gameranking, and that score is being held up by no name review sites who obviously have never played a quality JRPG.

Gamespy gave it a 2.5/5 which equates to 50%.
Gamespot gave it a 75%
Xplay gave it a 3/5 = 60%

:stongue:

So basically your argument is "Site that I don't like gave it good reviews, sites I do like (but that have been caught for having reviews bought and sold **cough** gamespy **cough cough**) say it's terrible."

Brilliant. I can't believe how wrong I was.

Just another idiot on the internet who can't think for himself. :haha:
