Is producing EDM a geek thing?

Now I have seen rock stars and pop stars producing tracks. It involves a lot of banging guitars and hitting drums with real force.. they break microphones and guitars sometimes too!! Its physical force.. and sometimes looks cool..

But dont you think producing EDM music is percived as a geekky thing.. like the producer is immersed in his computer or midi player.. and click moouse all the time..

Its not something loveble to vedio document and broadcast on MTV.. its perhaps geeky? Haan?

What about the amount of studio work that goes into other genres of music? Granted, most musicians have other people doing the engineering, and that may be the key difference.

I have seen Yanni trying to pretend to be a 'rockstar' when he was playing two pianos at one time side by side... It was a good effort.. but looked lame IMHO..

Of course it's geeky. The pioneering stuff was made by people who were freaks, obsessives, or outcasts of one type or another.

The perception is at least partly a true one, and personally I don't think it's a bad one, either. It helps filter out the kind of people who would be superficial enough to reject music because it had a "geek" image. creating a glitzy and inviting "cool" aura for the comfort of people who want to use music as a "fashion statement" and join a crowd in fawning over some "star." Those types can and should stay away. The music and the club environment will only be the better for it.
