This thread makes me remember a story that Woody van Eyden & Alex M.O.R.P.H. told me.
A guy went up to them, but he didn't ask for a special track or something. He wanted to sell his car to them - while they were playing in front of 800 people. |

I remember when I was in this club and this DJ had his head burried inside the mixer and was turning some knob reaallly slow and with lot of concentration (pretention I think)..
I went up to him and said: 'Hey man, what the heck you are doing, dont break that stuff.. I have some good CD collection in my car.. you wanna me bring it up for you?' |

hahaha! this thread delivers! :D
i've been to a lot of my friend's gigs thus far, (he's just starting out,) & i've heard things, such as:
"wtf is this ?!"
"turn off this techno !"
"turn off this bleep bloop !"
"play some in' bhangra/hip hop already!"
"when's the bhangra/hip hop gunna come on?!"
"can you please turn off this & play some bhangra/hip hop?!"
"can you pleeeease play ___ ?!"
now, it's not their fault @ all. he gets booked for these university parties, & mainstream university students around here love bhangra & hip hop. if it was a trance club night or whatever, then it would be so ed up. but since it's not, what are you supposed to say to them? & i don't want him to stop doing these gigs, 'cause it's good exposure/practise or whatever, right?
anyway. keep 'em commin', folks! :D |

My personal worst was having a twenty year old approach and say "can you play Darryl Braithewaite - The Horses?" in the middle of a commercial house set. Upon responding that I didn't have it, I was asked "what kind of a DJ are you?"

whoa, what kind of music is this? sounds like some trippy European . |

What bar was it? I'd kill to go to a bar around here that played something other than Billy Joel, AC/DC, and T-Pain... |

Now I know what to play the next time someone asks me for "Soulja Boy" :D
I remember doing my first Prom gig, and we had lots of students asking for "Sandstorm". The Top40 jock I was working with didn't have it in stock, so I ended up playing Shapeshifters "Lola's Theme" instead. Still, Sandstorm is one of those tracks that needs to be available, and RJT did Top40 DJs a great service by killing two birds with one stone, or in this case, song!
I've been asked "Where's the bathroom?" too many times, by people who can't see the door FIVE FEET ACROSS FROM THE DJ BOOTH!!!
Beat Blog: What's up with that? People will ask for random obscure 70s Pop records and expect me to have those on hand?!? Some people will never be truly satisfied... |

| heh, i've just remembered the clip of john 00 fleming from the 'ibiza's children' documentary that was posted on here some time ago. a drunk bloke allegedly went up to him while he was playing and tried to order a pint. then proceeded to get leary when john pointed him towards the bar :happy2: |
