I find Circa's coatcheck to probably be the most efficient around, I noticed that there's always a line on both side of the coatcheck for the first person doing the coatcheck. Whereas you can just cut the line and go the the corner of the 'L' shaped coat check and it's like a few seconds. |
That was impossible last night..at least when I went to leave. Everyone was getting crushed. |

| I did not end up going but my younger brother went, and had a very good time. The crowd was pushy apparently, but main floor in the middle you could find space, and a very good vibe. Coat check sucked apparently. Oh and crowd went nuts at the housey remix of "Out of Space", but he could not be too specific on which remix was played. Anyone? |

sorry to disappoint u. I didn't get to see Bob the entire time.. I do remember him playing one of his popular tracks,, don't ask me which one..and then he would cut the volume everytime the lyrics were on.. i didn't like that..not even half the ppl there could sing it. neither did I |

My Review
Well, first time to Circa, and I enjoy the venue quite a bit. I used to spend many hours when the venue was playdium so i was quite interested to see how the venue was converted. I could still picture myself running up and down the stairs playing video games, but this time it was running from room to room, floor to floor making sure i checked everything out, which I did, only 2 hrs later. Got to the club at 11 and got in right away. I was surprised at how there were so many admission stations they had. Def set up a feel for a circus of some sort. Finally walked towards the coat check line which was starting to get busy. I had gone in with a winter jacket and a blazer
and just waiting in line made me check everything but my tee as i was already sweating.
After that, the gf (who has been to circa many times) began the tour. We checked out everywhere and ran into so many people I wouldnt have expected to be there which was nice. Only thing that sucked was cell phone reception. There were only a few spots where I could get a couple bars, which made keeping in touch with people rather difficult, esp when your gf suddenly disappears and you dont find her for 2 hours, during which I continued to check out the venue in more detail. Overall a nice venue. Sound was surprisingly good in the main room. I didnt leave with ringing ear drums.
As for the music, going into the night, I knew Bob was going to play some cookie cutters but he did surprise me with a few tracks. Technically, he is good. No complaints other than what was said before cutting the music out so people could sing along... but that was expected. As for the other rooms, they were decent, playing a mix of everything. The guys who came on after bob (doman + pettigrew?) played some good tunes to close out the night.
It was awesome going to a fresh venue with a lot of friends from London (3 bdays being celebrated, so probably 30 of us had gone). Our whole group were invited bit by bit into the booth beside the dj booth which was pretty decent. Nice view from the front and a nice chance to watch Bob's mixing style. What was also amusing were the number of people handing me their cameras so i could take a picture of bob for them. lol. met the owner and chatted for a bit with him.
then went to chill out for a bit and headed to zone. Havent been there since labour of love.. been a while. wasnt too busy and was surprisingly brighter than usual. new setup is nice. fenced out the sketchies from getting too close to the booth. they also started the vip thing which was worth it. fruit every hr, own bar and chill area. since i tend to be up in the booth anyways, it was an added bonus. again, most of our london crew were there partying up. tunes were pretty solid from 930-1130ish. left at 1 and headed back to london.
word of advice, never give a major sketchbag a random ride back to london. he didnt even go to zone and was sleeping at the hotel till 1. he was sitting beside me making all these noises, kept yawning loudly, clenching his fists, making noises to the tunes, and what was worse was we stopped at the mcdonalds cambridge area for a washroom break. he went to get a meal and he honestly took 45 minutes... everyone in the car wanted to just leave him there. when asked if he had done anything, he said no... yea right. anyways, enough of that..

Awesome review Justin.
Where is the new VIP area at zone? Tell me it's not metal lounge. Also.. how does one gain access to vip? |

20 on top of regular cover? man, that's soooo lame!
I never thought zone would go back to making that vip. Shame on you CZ!
It had to be the place I felt most comfortable in. They should've did this with chinatown, but that'd never work with the bathroom/entrance to patio) |
