014 Windmill Sessions Feb2008

The Windmill Sessions continues through the dark winter days...
Apologies it took so long to upload this time, but its a goody!

Osictone-Far Away
Niko Fantin-Islamic Whisper (cassino+labens coming there mix)
MAZ7-Summer Day (mango+arthur deep remix)
Yvel+Tristan ft. Chriss Croat-A Miracle Man (trandel remix)
Cellec+Ersa pres. Arabella-Whisper (hugo gerritse remix)
Soul Tan+Dj Tarkan-Deep Dive In Istanbul (hugo gerritse remix)
Serge Flibustier-Nowhere (mango remix)
Osictone-Under Sunshine
Vito+Dewald-Glistening Heaven (michael+levan remix)
Probspot-Highlight
Keenan+Anderson-End to End
Ljungqvist+Lansberg-Feather Falls (christian rusch remix)
Matthew Adams-Gitarrenkram (outro)

Osictone-Far Away
A spacey and expectant pad-led start quickly gives way to blistering basslines and beautiful piano hints in a wonderful melodic workout and pacey opener.
Niko Fantin-Islamic Whisper (cassino+labens coming there mix)
From the pace of the opener to the slow, methodical deep journey-as crafted by Cassino+Laben. Breathtaking breakdown with atmospheric chanting in this.
MAZ7-Summer Day (mango+arthur deep remix)
Two of my favourite producers combine to put their restrained, but building melodic stamp on Summer Day.
Yvel+Tristan ft. Chriss Croat-A Miracle Man (trandel remix)
Punchey breakbeats now enter the fray. Crisp, almost acoustic feel to the sounds in this record, all of which is complemented by the synth stabs and pads throughout.
Cellec+Ersa pres. Arabella-Whisper (hugo gerritse remix)
Continuing the breaks in somewhat more aggressive percussive style now. Hugo Gerritse transforms the rather tepid original into a beautiful melodic treat come the breakdown.
Soul Tan+Dj Tarkan-Deep Dive In Istanbul (hugo gerritse remix)
Deep Dive In Istanbul has been one of my favourite tracks over the last few years, such is its evocative tone and poignant vocals. In this latest interpretation Gerritse hints at the vocals with lush melodious sweeps and carries the listener along with wonderful bass action. One of my absolute faves!
Serge Flibustier-Nowhere (mango remix)
The inclusion of this track next provides gloriously uplifting contrast due to its fast-paced bouncey stabs, soothing guitar interludes and repeated vocal. Classic Mango action as always.
Osictone-Under Sunshine
We start to increase the tempo markedly now with this energetic track, which must also be one of the most peculiar tracks to mix I have encountered, starting as it does right in the 'meat' of the track! I think I have done a reasonable job on the mix, the quick track transition was a necessity and provides real momentum in hindsight.
Vito+Dewald-Glistening Heaven (michael+levan remix)
The sounds of 'Under The Sunshine' melt away and are replaced by dark, glistening melodies which signal the start of the trancier influenced tracks for the end of the mix.
Probspot-Highlight
'Highlight' provides a quick pace injection to the mix again, the throbbing bass working wonders.
Keenan+Anderson-End to End
As close to real trance as I err nowadays, this track is spacey with its distinctive electronica sounds and building etheral pads.
Ljungqvist+Lansberg-Feather Falls (christian rusch remix)
An interesting trancey-type record that never really reaches its culmination but delivers goodness throughout. A calm and considered track to end the mix in thoughtful mood.
Matthew Adams-Gitarrenkram (outro)
A guitar instrumental is introduced and then teasingly faded away leaving the listener craving more...

Yeah sorry man it has taken a long time to put the finishing touches to the mix this time, it's just been a busy month for me! Don't worry, I'd never just stop posting these mixes without a very good reason.

Hope everyone enjoys the tuuuuuuuunnnnneeeeeage!

This set is massive (as usual). Proper review to come this weekend. Love that opener! No fooling around, just straight into the

Look forward to your customary in-depth review mate!

The opener is a special one yeah, chilled+floaty ambient start then BOSH! straight in with the melodies and bouncey bassline. Grabs your attention right away and doesnt really let go.

I love the opening track in this set! It starts out spacey and atmospheric, then the kick comes in, and that bass line combines with the atmosphere, and the listener is immediately entranced. Then comes the nice fade into Islamic Whisper. The fade is nicely done, and it just serves as a reminder that there’s so much more to mixing than just matching 4/4 kicks all day – something I need to practice myself. This track is darker, but it still teases the listener with a little light – and then the lush breakdown with the ethereal chanting hits, taking it to another level. Now we’re into Summer Day with the Mango and Arthur Deep treatment. Two of my favorites to whom you’ve introduced me, and they do excellent work here. The mix still retains its atmospheric feel, but this track gives it just a bit more warmth with a nice, dreamy melody throughout. The breaks arrive next, and every time you throw in a breaks track I curse myself for not having learned how to mix them! Breaks can really add so much to a set. Miracle Man gives us a nice strong kick and an enticing lead. Next up is Whisper, another breaks tune. I have to say of the two, I prefer the synth stabs in Whisper, and its breakdown is gorgeous. All good things must end, and now we’re in Deep Dive into Instanbul. The percs and bass here are just amazing. Combined with the vocal sweeps and sythn stabs, the listener is immediately entranced once again. This track doesn’t play around, and it may very well be the track of the mix for me this time around! This is just GOOD music. Nowhere is phrased perfectly, and I love the mix into it. The repeated vocals immediately combine with Mango signature warmth to take the mix up a level! Well done, sir! Mango always makes me feel as though I’m leaving the last holds of winter and that spring is breaking out all around me. Suddenly, Under Sunshine explodes with a signature sound that reminds of the electronic organ that Ray Manzarek of The Doors used to play. This tune adds uniqueness and tempo to the mix, taking it up another notch as we inch closer to peak time and the end, finally. Glistening Heaven is a darker number with a much heavier kick. Various melodies duck and weave their way in and out of this track helping it build nicely to its break. Highlight shows up next with its massive bass attack! Love the little random piano sounding stabs and the almost flute-like melody that gets thrown in from time to time over the lead. Nice work from Probspot. Love the mix into End to End. Nice and smooth, then the bass from Highlight drops off and we’re into End to End! Love the trancy swirls in this one. This track serves to remind that trance doesn’t have to be about massive, epic, hands-in-the-air only type tunes. A smooth transition into Feather Falls – another track which shows you can find trancier sounds without the need for today’s predominant epic sound. A very relaxing trancer that takes us down a little before the lovely guitar outro. Another outstanding mix, Spike! Cheers as always for the hard work.

Had a listen to this one this morning at the gym.

Wow. Awesome job. This is the first mix I've heard from you and I plan on trying to get a hold of your others that you've shared very soon.

Flawless mixing combined with a very unique track list that just flows together perfectly.

I was very impressed with this mix and am definitely keeping it for future listens.

Thanks for sharing

edit** Thought I might add, that Mango remix of "Nowhere" is sweeeeet

Awesome review Zoso mate! Loved reading through it, got it all spot on as always. So pleasing that people appreciate the subtleties in music+pick up upon them.
All your track descriptions and points are right on the money so theres not a lot I can add! Although I will agree with you about that "Deep dive" remix being the strongest track, the low end and overall production skills on that are superb.
Insightful comments about the trancier tracks near the end aswell.

Thanks for the brilliant review my man!
