NHL Trade Deadline (pg. 6)

Next year is the year that counts anyway. 100 year anniversary would be a good time to make a push. At least we have suffeciant cap room to sign our UFA's during the off season with extra left to make a few splashes in the free agent market. They still have a solid team to make it to the 2nd round and bring in some more profit for the team. No one from the East will win the cup this year and we are probably looking at repeat champs this year.

Either way it was nice to see how Higgins responded to not being gone. Big test coming up on the Western road trip, we need all our big cylinders firing for those.

Yep, that trip will really be a test of our Stanley Cup credentials.

I hope Carbo gives Halak a start during one of those games. We can't let an asset like that only play 2 games until the end of the year. When i saw his numbers from Hamilton this year i regret a bit that i went off on the Huet trade. Its Carey's teamnow, and neither one have proven anything in the NHL, but i can still see many teams that would love to have those guys on their roster.

Paddock fired. This is now our official NHL thread :p

Saw that one coming, the Sens were ing imploding.

Apparently Atlanta wanted Higgins, S. Kosyn, Chipchura, and a 1st rounder for Hossa. that.

still think Pittsburgh made good to get Hossa and apparently Gary Roberts (along with Crosby) IS skating and should be ready for playoffs. Scary.

Pittsburgh's power play is going to be sick....and in the new age NHL special teams make the difference.

you have two snipers in hossa and malkin.....crosby is the all around great player and roberts can pick up garbage goals like no one else can....the only real weak part of the team is D.....they are definately a team built to make a playoff run.
Spin Laden
yeah, they have Sykora, Staal, and agitators like Ruutu and Roberts. Conklin is playing well and I think they can come out of the east now that Malkin has asserted himself.

Assuming no injuries, and that's a big assumption.

I'm pissed I missed this thread the last couple days

my gut reaction to the huet trade:
- "whatever"
- then ""
- now i'm more at peace. Let's give Price a chance. It's a risk, but if it pays off, who knows???

Can you change the thread title to "Official Habs Thread 2007-08"? It's better late than never? I remember last year's thread was started when Ribeiro got traded for Niniimaa. At the time, everyone was so happy. Looking back...I'm shaking my head.

Let's see Gainey's TRADES so far, with a rating whether we won or lost the trade:
Ribeiro -> Ninimaa (Loss)
Theodore -> Aebischer (Loss)
Huet - > 2nd round pick (we'll see)
Josef Balej -> Kovalev (Win)
Rivet -> Josh Gorges + 1st round pick (Even)

So far he hasn't done THAT bad...

The thing with Pittsburgh is that although Ty Conklin has been tearing it up, in his career 3 teams have basically given him away for nothing because he always choked when the chips were down. For fun, name me the last time someone won the stanley cup without a goalie satnding on his head? That and against a team like Anaheim, i don't know if they can protect their superstars against el gros goon beef.

ps the Theodore trade was win, because with the salary cap he would have been a huge waste of cash for what he was asking.

I'm not even sure if I would have given up Higgins and a 1st round pick for Hossa. He's good, but not great. I MIGHT consider that kind of deal for someone like Lecavalier, but apparently he's going to sign for life in HOCKEY SIBERIA (Tampa) when he could have been a ing GOD in Montreal.

When I first started firing off on Gainey, I didn't realise Atlanta were asking for so much. Any hockey person knows that what they wanted was quite unrealistic so...as you say, THAT. And I'm sure Gainey told them something similar.

I still think Gainey could have pushed for much more than a 2nd round pick for Huet. He at least could have got that pick plus a body.
