More than anything i'd like what uses think of the following, including pro's and con's.
I'm considering of buying the Minimoog Voyager Rack and/or the Virus TI Polar.
Money is not REALLY an issue but these would cost approx. $5000 USD.
Comp specs:
Core 2 Duo 2.66 gHz
2 gigs ram
Mbox 2 soundcard
Running mostly on FL studio but i do occasionally use Pro Tools. |

I read the topic, but I don't know anything about those hardware synths, FL Studio, or Pro-Tools.
Sorry. |

Get ready to switch to another DAW as well. The Virus TI does not support FL Studio since FL doesn't have latency compensation.
The Virus Control plugin won't be in sync.
Imo, the Moog Voyager is too expensive for what it does. Consider getting the Moog LP instead. |

I thought about the Little Phatty.. its also very nice and the plus to it is that its well under 1/2 the price of the voyager! |

i own both and can see a proper application for both. i will say i use the virus MORE than my moog (per project) but thats because the voyager is monophonic and very good at certain sounds, the virus is a total package deal, great pads, arps, leads, bass'(some), fx, etc.
if you had to pick 1 synth at this very moment the virus will give you the most bang for your buck.
p.s. i feel bad, my voyager is looking at me right in the face right now asking me why the diss, why i don't want system101 to buy a brother of his.
p.s.s. i'll brb, this lil guy needs some love.
p.s.s.s you can hear my voyager on my remix of 'bigger than big' as the huge keyboard solo & some underlying tones. you can hear my virus in my 'mistakes aren't forgotten' track as the pads & lead and my moog on this bass in that same track |

I dont know much about the moog, other than the softsynth one. But i did have a virus TI desktop, and honestly i hated the thing so much that i got rid of it about 2 weeks ago. Every day i would have a problem with the software. Im not sure if they have fixed the problems.
I guess the reason i bought the virus was because i thought you NEEDED hardware to get a good sound, very stupid of me. Everyone kept of bragging how good it is. There is absolutely nothing you cant do with a few soft synths. If i was in you position i would get afew softsynth instead of the hardware.
Go check out the virus ti forums and look at all the problems that people have. Although i guess you will just have to go experience it yourself. But its so funny how alot of people swear by it, and i had such a crappy experience with it, maybe i got a dud. |

Well i have no problems whatsoever using my Virus TI with Cubase 4. Though i agree with the poster above, there's nothing the virus can do that can't be achieved by software synths. I would still buy one though, just because of being able to use 16 different sounds in one track & being able to turn a knob & tweak each one of them.
Maybe get a TI Snow & spend the extra cash on a nord lead or waldorf blofeld. My two cents. |

Thanks everyone for the replies!
I'll definately think about it for a short amount of time but i'm still leaning towards the TI Polar 100%. |

Go look at any software or hardware forum and you're going to see lots of problems mentioned. Solving issues is one of the primary purposes of peer-2-peer forums. I've had my Polar TI for about a year and a half now and have had very few minor issues with it (using Sonar 7 and Cubase Studio 4.1).
Between the Virus TI and the Moog - the two are really different beasts. The Moog will obviously do analogue better, uh well, for the obvious reason. But, the Virus is more of a complete music production machine, which makes it a much better bang for the buck, IMO.
As Eldritch mentioned, if you go with the Virus, no more Loopy Fruits for you. I'd suggest taking a close look at Sonar 7 as your DAW, but Cubase is also a good choice. I also suggest checking out the Unofficial Access and Cubase forums before buying. |
