Wednesday
Ok, so it all starts the night before we leave when I magically get us all guestlisted into Deadmau5/James Zabiela @ The Forum. (Thanks Joel.) I lose it, and pack before I go to sleep.
Thursday
The next day we set out. Tom (nrjizer), his g/f, another friend, and I head out towards Charlotte around 4:30. Just a few minutes outside of the city out of nowhere there is a wreck that sits us stationary on the interstate for an HOUR. We get really worried about how this is going to delay us, but thankfully we are right next to the crash, and quickly go by once the lanes are open again.
On the way we can't stop laughing, because the towns inbetween Atlanta and Charlotte are absolutely HILARIOUS. We passed Gastonia, Spartunburg, Townville, and my favorite, FUTURE! It took around 5 hours total (counting the wreck) but finally we made it thanks to a lovely GPS.
Upon checking in, we immediately had to leave for The Forum. When we got there, we found it to be some sort of hybrid between Opera and Wetbar. It had almost as good a sound system as Wetbar, as well as other rooms to go in, but had the large room with a VIP balcony and fog machines. The demographic was a bit odd... lots of fratboys with buttonups that resembled E tards. But whatever, we came for the music, and would only be listening to the speakers anyway.
I was wrong. Deadmau5 came on and was using some of the sickest gear in the sickest way I've ever seen. He didn't have his Lemurs or Xone, but did have the eyegasmic Monome. He played a lot of groovy stuff, switching between his productions and Phil Kieran style durty techno. Was absolutely fantastic.
Zabiela came on around 12:15, and dropped some of the sickest breakbeat stuff I'd heard in a while. He played his usual tech-housey kind of stuff and of course showed everyone who is boss with the Pioneer equipment. Even Deadmau5 was in the crowd grooving his ass off and taking videos with his camera.
Around 2:15, the music stopped, and they kicked everyone out. Such a sick night... I didn't grab the muchly anticipated "side-by-side" picture with Zabs, (We look very similar.) but I was confused for him an amazing FIVE TIMES. The fifth one was a guy thanking me for such a good show, and I just stared at him cluelessly since James was actually spinning at the time... lol We went back to the hotel, hitting up Waffle House on the way, then passed out around 4am.
Friday
After a bit of pre-gaming and the discovery of ** !Brixx Pizza!**, we headed out for Höm. When we got there we realized it was just a block away from The Forum, probably because Charlotte is just freaking small. But we also realized that we DIDN'T KNOW WHERE IT WAS. It apparently wasn't labeled, and that just begins the story of why this place pwns. We get up to the queue, and the first bouncer tells us we can't get in because of our shoes. Tom immediately says "DUDE! We came all the way from Atlanta just to see Burridge..." and I add "Seriously! Check the IDs!." The bouncer looks at us and smiles. "I didn't see those." :)
We thank him and head inside. Upon entry we realize that the club is GORGEOUS. It it nothing but hardwood floors, brick walls, and an amaaaazing sound system (better than Wetbar's in my opinion... the levels are mixed so well, not to mention at a volume where earplugs are optional). There is a side room with luxurious couches, CARPET, fancy walls with paintings, mooseheads, and exotic spinning umbrellas on the cieling. Oh wait, I forgot to mention the PIANO. Just wow...
We hang outside next to the open fires for a few minutes just to catch a beautiful glimpse of the foggy city and skyline. Then we realize it's cold and move back inside. The openers (who noone has a clue were) spun an amazingly proper set for the opening of Lee Burridge. It was very surprising and enjoyable to hear.
Around 12:30, Lee comes on, and the real party starts. I don't really remember much of this time because I was talking with Mike and Marti. (Nice to meet you finally Marti and Georgia!) All I know was that good music was being flawlessly and energetically mixed. Lee was having his share of fun as well. He even posed for pictures as the cameras flew up to the booth. He was such a class guy...
About 3 something the music stopped, and we headed downstairs to this equally as cool club. The opener there was pounding out a good set, and Lee was just hanging out. Thanks to Marti, I met him, and we talked about the " burridge" comment... such lulz! He went on at 4am, and a little after we decided to leave. Our driver had lost all energy. We said our goodbyes and headed for Waffle House again. Then we lost consciousness at 5.
Saturday
We woke up madd late, and rushed to check out in time. Our stomachs begged for Brixx Pizza, so we went another time. Damn that place is good! I don't remember when we left, or when we got back. I was either sleeping or making fun of South/North Carolinas funny town names.
Short version: Yeah, it was epic. :P |

Don't think so. We left pretty fast, and around 4/4:30am. Entered pretty fast too.
And yeah, we had a great time. Don't think we'll be back unless there is something as equally epic, but we definitely had a siiiiiick weekend! I wish we could've taken Höm höm with us. :( |
