Two data recovery places can't even bring the drive up... do it or you'll lose it like me

Really don't want to learn this the hard way again so I'll get my self a new external drive this weekend.

It's gotta be the easiest way to back up your data and they really have come down in price now so no excuses

I belong to the "I should have backed up but I'm an idiot and didn't" club.

I've had this several times. It's a bummer but in the end always a well deserved good fresh start. Sure I don't have any of my source files anymore but that's not such a big problem imo.

I have an external drive but it does not contain any of my new information or source files from within um... the last year.

I haven't backed up my desktop in almost 2 years I think? So I get the computer Darwin award :) Luckily my projects (Reason and Pro Tools) are all stored on thumb drive.

I recently lost everything I've ever made. I didn't even burn one dvd the past three years, securing my project files. All I have is a few mp3s floating around the web somewhere. ;)

I don't really mind, as previously stated, it's a fresh start. Now all those awful mixes can r.i.p :p

I just backed everything up to DVDs as a result of this thread. Now I just have to remember to schedule this every two months... and move my project files across to my laptop each week as well...

I allways take images, double up and compress my stuff onto other hdd's.. Systemdisks and all type of files is allways backed up, and believe me its an incredible relief, when you know how unreliable mechanical hdd's can be and have had traumatic experiences with this in the past.

Thank you, I just bought 20 DVD's and I am ready to back up and to redime my soul! :D

Kopi =o.

The only data I continuously back up is my music production data. It's good when people post about losing everything, it reminds me to back up! I just shoot my data over to another PC on the network. Sometimes I make DVDs too. I also have a slave drive that I use here and there for backup. External drives are a great way to go these days, they are cheap and anyone can set them up.

It was an external drive that suddenly failed on me. (maxtor III 300gb), and it was not even a year old. I had everything on it. One day I wanted to fire it up, it made a bunch of weird noises and just didn't want to spin up.
