Yes. They are.
And if you are taken in by the illusion of their reality, then take a step back and ask yourself why you would even care in the first place. Don't participate in their empathy game and you won't find yourself bothered by the obvious problems of prescribed morality. |
Exactly. I mean seriously, how are they telling if she's telling the truth or not? You don't see her hooked up to anything at all.
Edit: So that was answered with the link below. :o |

Yes, yes, because polygraphs are a very reliable device. It's why there is no such thing as a lie in both politics and the law. :stongue:
Baaaaa imo
//and they would certainly never purposefully misinterpret results for dramatic effect. Nope.
It's not a question of them being dumb... just whether they are smarter than their audience. Not hard to do if you ask me. |

Why do you care that I care? Sometimes things like this just have an effect on you. It's not that im running a campaign to shut the show down, but in the end empathy is what it is, it makes you wonder why they would do things like this that you would never do yourself |

| Pretty much. Fake or not, the whole thing is bull and is a fine example of the crap that FOX consistently comes up with. |

Because some people are more greedy than others, and as a result will be willing to do stupid . |

Yeah, and then the show itself, even if it may not be real but the principle behind it is as I said appalling. Yes, it may be all about viewer ratings, and dramatic effect, and pulling in audiences when there are hundreds of other shows available, and yes, Halcyon, about the audience being stupider than them, but in the end, its about them expecting people to be affected, and that pisses me off.
edit: and YES, I know it's ironic. |

Because caring for like this detracts from the lives and events of real people. Because this prescription of morality and doses of empathy as fed to us through televisions leads to the death of emotions and actual concern for our fellow man because, well, who the needs actual interaction when we can feel just as much when it's through a nice little flickering box in our living room that likes to sell us stuff once we trust it? I care because like this is wrecking things like books. like this is wrecking things like people trusting their own intuition rather than that of some demographic study group at the top of reality prescription as home entertainment. Why do you care why I care? It's so much easier to just not care at all and pretend like you care by watching television. That is why I care.
Oh, but don't mind you. You're detached. You can handle the truth of things as long as you know to trust who is telling you the truth. The greatest lie ever to be told would do quite well to disguise itself, don't you think? |

True, caring detracts people from real lives, but unless that thing is staged, it IS real life isn't it? I agree with the points you make about television ing things up when it comes to people and actual interaction, but when you are propped up in front of the telly, and something like this does come up, you must be affected in some way must you not? It doesn't mean I carry those feelings around wherever I go, and let them govern how I behave/think/feel, but just at that moment, I do care.
Unless as I said, you know for sure that its staged, at which point, I would just point and laugh. (or watch Oprah :) ) |

The funny part in the clip was how they thought the lie detector was the shizzle. The husband didn't believe what his wife said unless the robot woman said 'that is true'. |
