| Like many people here, I have been wanting to spin trance for the loongest time. About 2-3 months ago, I have dedicated my life to saving up the money to get into this. I decided to buy the 1200's as my first set cuz I would regret it if i didnt. So the other day I won an auction on ebay for a pair of 1200's...I got them for $640. I know this isnt the best price. But after checking around the Guitar Centers in my area ( i realized they hardly ever get used ones in) and continously checking ebay...I decided to just get these. After talking to the seller, I have found out that they are 12 years old...He used them to do a couple parties but mainly used them at home...however, he hasn't used them at all in the past couple of years. His replys to my specific answers are somewhat shady. I asked him if the work perfectly as new 1200's should? And he replies that they have held up well over the years for him and that they just need to be gently used? WTF is that?? is he hinting that something is wrong or am I just being paranoid. He said that one of the tonearm clips is cracked and he repaired it with epoxy and I just have to be careful with it and the rubber mats are missing. Do I need them to spin?? Sorry this is a long post. But I'm a poor ass 18 year old and I am busting my ass now just so I can get into this. I just don't want to be unhappy with them. |

well that's one reason why i avoid used equipment on ebay. He might've spun a lot in different environments and i dunno maybe the motor is getting its work cut out for itself. You also have to remember, the reason why ppl ebay their technics is 1) they're getting rid of it or 2) they know it's broke and some guy is gonna bid on 'em despite what quality they are. It's easy as saying "my 1200s i've used the past 10 years still lasts me, so you wont regret" where i'm really implying "i've ripped this sucker apart.. and if it fails, it's not my responsibility but thanks for your 640$"
You dont need rubber slipmats, but u do need slipmats to spin. Maybe put a piece of wax underneath it just in case. |

| man.. thats kinda old to be paying 640 for.. i mean 160 more and u can get some brand spankin' new ones.. i'd tell that guy to off and since he didn't mention how old they were then its kinda like false advertising (but not really because you should have asked their age before bidding).. but anyways, just tell him the deal is off and to relist his item because you don't want to pay that much for decks that are so old.. or maybe offer him half that price. |

thats kinda shady...i mean..if they're broken he should have listed it and the price should be docked for that and the fact of how old they are
technics are awesome tables...i dont have any regrets about paying full price for mine
im sure you wont either :)
i say dont go thru with that ebay and get them where u know they are in good condition |

what did the seller have as a description and condition of the turntable? did he write good condition, excellent condition, poor condition???
If the deck is 12 years old, that is not a good price at all to buy the deck. Im sorry to say, that you got kinda ripped off. 640 american is $1000 canadian :eyes: I bought my decks for $720 each brand new.
Im really sorry to hear what happened to you in this case, i hope you can return it or something if its not working well.
Anyways if you wanted to play trance for fun, you could have good the stanton tables, or buy a technics or pioneer, or stanton dj package. |

Mate I don't know...
I would say to save up a little more and buy new ones!
Just think what will you do if these TTs suck :(
You'll have to save money again for a loooong time! |

| You're spending a great fortune...why not wait a little longer and buy brand new ones... don't do anything you're gonna regret. |

Agreed. I just bought a new pair of 1200's recently, and I'm REALLY glad I didn't buy used. Sure, new TT's cost more money, but it's worth it to know that you're getting a solid pair. You don't want to spend $640 then find out that you have $100+ in repairs to do on them right away. :( Also, how much is shipping and is it included in the $640? If not, you are now even closer to the price of new TT's...
Pull out of the auction if you can, and consider yourself lucky that the seller told you that the TT's were 12 years old. |

Wurd !
I think the best advice has already been given, try to break the deal,
were any of the details u mention (no slip mats, cracked tonearm etc) in the item description when U bid ?
If those details were not listed then U do have reasonable grounds for not going thru with the sale.
To be honest with you, a cracked tonearm is not good, i dont care if he has fixed it well or not, its expensive to replace.
Is He including anything else in the deal ? like dust covers ? Cartridges etc ?
Could u post the URL of the sale on here or copy the item description so we can see what it was he was trying to sell u

| u guys dont seem to understand once he wins the auction he cant really break the agreement unless the seller agrees to (and i dont think he would unless you're willing to pay the item % sell fee that he has to pay) |
