New Computer Spec

Hi All,
well i've finally decided it's time for an upgrade as i'm using a very old Amd 64 bit yes the first ever ones, i was travelling for a few years (my excuse). So now i've come up with this spec and was wondering will this handle multiple vst running and fx without stuttering.
Spec:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 2.66GHz
Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 Intel X38 motherboard
GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3
over 1tb of hard drive space
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-8000C5
and i'll put my delta 1010lt audio card into it.
so all in all i hope this spec will be good enough for what i can through at it with vst's and what not. |

Your specs are pretty good. If you just want it for audio purposes, rather than a PCI gfx card, try to get an AGP and for ur harddrive, i would really recommend 2 separate drives. One for your OS and program files, ideally anywhre from 80 - 160 gb would b sufficient. As for your second harddrive - 1 tb could be used for all audio materials.
Harddrive are really cheap these days so if you can get a 160 gb one for your OS it would be good. Also, if something goes wrong and you want to reformat your computer, you can be secure in knowing your other drive with all ur audio stuff will still be as it is. |

| oh ya as said make sure you have a few back up drives. can't stress that enough. especially drives to save your projects/samples/presets on in case the cloverfield monster attacks your computer. |

that looks very solid, almost identical to mine, although i just have dual core, since i baught mine last june and quad was still too expensive.
remember to get a good power supply (i have the corsair) and a good case that promotes good air flow (i have one from antec that is super quiet as its metal-plastic-metal) |

This is spot on advice. Just add what jupiterone said (at least one external hard drive (you can get a 250gb for less than $150 now)), a good case and PSU and you have a near perfect DAW.
How much is this costing you by the way as I have to take the plunge soon too? |

All in all around �800.
