Any hosts sync over lan?

Hi all, just wondering, has anyone ever got 2 hosts to sync perfectly over lan?

A friend and I have been trying to make music together with 2 computers for years and have never got it working correctly.

I have tried using Ableton Live with fxteleport and flStudio on the other computer and got it to work, but it constantly goes out of sync.
And not only that but, fx teleport is made to shut the audio off when there is silence, and every time the slave (flstudio) stops giving audio, it stops everything and I have to restart the song. And forget about looping then it really goes out of sync.

All I want is for me and a friend to be able to make music together and it never happens cause of sync problems. and Yes I have used Midi before. I have an M-Audio midisport 8x8 and midi never works the way I want it to either.

So........ any suggestions?

You can give Wormhole a try: http://code.google.com/p/wormhole2/
Tried it here a while back and seemed to work. Does have the obvious lag tho.

Do they work perfectly in sync at all times?

Yes, I believe so. You can have a second computer running your vsti synths in nuendo, and send midi data from cubase over to the other computer, and then back again into cubase seamlessly. I don't remember how this was set up exactly, but it was through either aes\ebu or spdif. So, it's not exactly the correct answer to your question I guess.

Beyer, what you are talking about is system link in cubase/nuendo - you'll find it under devices menu (i think). It's done via spdif and I think it uses the least signifigant bit to achieve sync (but this does mean that if you're in 24 bit it will actually be 23 bit).

It does work very well but is not lan or network share.

Also, logic 8 can do logic nodes, where processing power can be used from another node computer.

The problem is not that of more power for more instruments, I am not worried about that. I had fx teleport working fine, what I want to do is have 2 Hosts sync together, so that 2 people at the same time can make music. Kinda like Fl studio's Collab, but I want to do it on LAN and not with Fl Studio :D

this is not done via lan but via vst system link
Lucidity
and with this system link, you can hit play on either computer and they stay in sync at the same time? And 2 people can work at the same time?

maybe you can just use midi. Set up fruity as the master and have ableton slave to fruity's midi clock with ole fashioned midi cables :D

I tried using FX Teleport to run 2 Cubases in synch and it was just too unresponsive so I just gave up.

you might like to try ninjam. it intergrates into reaper very well.
www.reaper.fm

just beware, reaper still has some vst-related stability issues and midi timing problems. if you keep your plugin folder conservative, you should be fine.
