| I got my macbook pro afew days back and i was wondering if i could rewire ableton (macbook) to logic (mac pro) via ethernet. Has anyone had any experience trying to do this? |

| I doubt you can do this. The rewired apps are hooking into an API that is already open on the current OS when they launch i.e when the app launches it automatically checks for a rewire host. This is built into the code. I don't think there is any way of redirecting this API call unless you want to rewrite the software!! |

There are programs that let you share and use Vst's on other hosts. Forgot the name though
*Edit* you said rewiring with ableton and logic. Hmm not sure about this one, one of the senior members are gonna have to step up :D |

| In order to do it as real-time as one can get, I believe you require a gigabit network. I am unsure about rewire being capable of doing this though. |

FX Teleport.
I don't know if its on mac yet, but if it isnt it should be soon. |
afaik, FX Teleport doesn't work with rewire...it's only for VSTs isnt it? |

| you're probably better off doing it all over ADAT, imo. i've tried a few audio/midi over lan things and they all seem a bit convoluted (jitter, latency, etc.) |

this a complete oxymoron. you don't know how to do it, because there is no way to do it; the rewire protocol does not currently support networking.
fxteleport is only for individual vst plugins, not an entire daw or channels of audio, so it is useless in this case.
you can try wormhole (http://plasq.com/wormhole), but i wouldn't expect stellar performance. latency etc. are always an issue with this kind of thing. gigabit ethernet is obviously a must.
like i said, you are best off getting ADAT/midi interfaces and streaming your audio/midi over that. this is what most sane people do. |
