On Saturday, May 17th, 2008 nearly 5,000 dancers will converge on the streets of New York City to celebrate dance for the Second Annual New York City Dance Parade.
Last year – the first-ever dance parade in New York – 50 styles of dance were celebrated down Broadway, from ancient forms to contemporary, from world cultures to local. Dance Parade is growing to become a NYC annual staple.
This year experience colorful floats, live bands and DJs creating a safe and exciting atmosphere to dance in the streets. Among the styles already registered for this year's parade: Ballet, Belly Dance, B-boy, Hip-Hop, House, Hustle, Modern, Mambo, Rumba, Salsa, Swing and more.
You can reach us online at WWW.DANCEPARADE.ORG. We have online tools to register your group, discover other group, and custom build your float for this year's parade. Registration for dance organization is $100 to offset insurance and production costs (scholarships are available). By registering your website link will be seen by thousands of dance patrons, enthusiast, press and promoters. If you don't have a website, let us know and we can program a webpage for you! Individual dancers can sign up FREE!
Join Us, Volunteer, Donate or Join the Parade at DanceParade.Org and add your name to Steps!, our monthly eBulletin. New York Dance Parade is a not-for-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. Throughout the year scores of people behind the scenes work year round to build private/public partnerships that ensures that all forms of dance are represented in an annual city-wide public event. Our mission is to show that dance is an expressive and unifying form of art. Our aim is to educate the public on the health and cultural benefits of dance. In doing so, we aim to support and strengthen the role of dance in our culture.

Anyone have any recommendations for good spots to see the parade?
I see the route has been changed from last year. |

not sure about a good spot to watch the parade but there were DEF a lot of ppl along the sidelines...last yr we were taking photos at the beginning of the parade after saying hi to Indy and the rest of the ppl on DT's float...then they left...10 minutes later was told that we couldn't stay rooted there cuz we weren't PRESS...so we basically just RAN down the entire length of the route as fast as we could, chasing down DT's float, snapping pics all the way to Washington Square Park. Caught up around 9thst, DT's float was soo far ahead of the rest, it slowed down and we were all just dancing in the street for a bit of time. Great memories, hehe. :)
ooh, this yr the party's ending up at Tompkins Square Park...man wonder how they are going to direct traffic since it seems to be going crosstown this yr :crazy:
man this week is just coinciding with some great events!!! :( wish we could be here for this. have fun guys!!! |
