Anyway, I think it's cool to be able to mix some mp3s without having to be in practice for months to get a decent transition.
I was doing this set a week ago mixing dnb, rap, house, trance, funk and jungle.. it was crazy :D It was just for some friends.. I was mixing Scuarepusher in with dj premier.. it actually sounded ok.. hehe. It was a lot of fun.. and not serious at all.
Respek! |
Well I guess thats cool, if u just like to fool around and have some fun, and not get too serious about having maaaad skillz. :D |

| For some reason, the forum is only allowing .mp3 files. My pic is in .jpg format. Check your pm...if you're interested, I'll get you the pic. |

I'm using PCDJ Red, and some external stuff.
Here's my setup:
Presario Laptop ->
running PCDJ Red (connected via serial to Numark DMC-1) ->
output to 2 soundcards (1 internal/1 external) ->
soundcards feeding into Stanton mixer ->
output to headphones/speakers
Here's a pic of the setup:
Good luck :p |
I have a similar setup, except I have turntables too... The sound cards connect to the mixer's LINE IN inputs while the turntables connect to the mixer's PHONO inputs, so I can practice mixing my records with mp3s. Great for practicing before I'm able to track down the record or to see if a track mixes well with my existing records before I decide to buy it on vinyl. |

well... it seems everyone is saying this program that program is a toy junk junk blah blah....
the way i look at it is this... all "DJ" programs for the computer are simply learning tools. very few professional DJs use them for live gigs... but many professional DJs use them to learn with.
mixmeister is great for designing mixes... play around with them in non-real time and do your arrangments.. then take to your decks with a real plan.
atomixmp3 is great for learning phrase alignment and the very beginning of beatmatching - you can visually percieve the music's beats, which gives a beginner a much better idea of the music... and you'd be supprised what you can pull of with atomixmp3 if you have an exernal mixer. it's a great beginner tool.
traktor, well... im not sure what to say about it. to me, it's a cross between a professioal interface with toy-like features. reminds me of atomixmp3 in a way, but requires more skill.
VTT and PCDJ are probably the closest you will get to real hardware mixing. PCDJ is VERY much like two CD decks, and even supports dual soundboards with an external mixer.
so start with some of the simplier, easier to deal with stuff.. mixmeister, atomixmp3, bpm stupid.. then give up some candy features.. pick up PCDJ or VTT.. learn to beatmatch by ear.. then ditch the PC and get full hardware. it's a logical progression thing :)

i started off with vtt, when i first got it i was terrible but i liked the program. after some practice my mixes were perfect ;)
even tho i had to cue from the speakers and vtt has lag issues :(
when i get my new comp im gonna get a second sound card and a cheap mixer, so ill have 2 audigys & a crappy mixer |

ever since i installed windows xp, and vtt stopped working, i've been MISERABLE... i haven't made a mix in sooo long, and i've been trying to find a replacement for vtt.... in the past 2 days, i can safely say i've tried almost ALL of the mp3 mixing programs out there, and not a SINGLE one even comes close to being as good as vtt...
all those "professional" mixers like mixvibes, pcdj, that will cost you an arm and a leg, might be fun if you had the external controllers and an external mixer... but by themselves, they stink bad.... they try to be too realistic, with all the knobs and fancy skins. knobs are just no good when you're trying to "turn" them with the mouse... ugh... too fancy... all bells and whistles....
the rest of them like, atomix, and crap... just toys. they might be useful for just running through a playlist with some beatmatching... but as for actually mixing the songs yourself... garbage...
i even tried some really ghetto ones.... spuntrix1 mp3 mixer?? wtf... it sucked...
i miss vtt..... =(. does anyone know when digital turntables is coming out? it just might be the answer to my prayers... |

i know, i miss VTT too. it kicks ass on everything else.
luckily, my technics 1200 M3ds arrived today.. :)
but, i still want DJ on computer too.
i don't have a mixer and needles yet, so i can't play with them anyway.
either, go back to windows 98, or wait for DTT to come out.
it's already in beta. |
