Making mistakes

How do you react when you know that you have erred? Although I do have two steady jobs, I also work as a freelance programmer, and realised I made a mistake that might cost me 200 dollars (I didnft notice something was missing in the contract). Naturally, it does serve as a lesson (Ifve got way too many jobs and I should pay more attention before doing any sort of agreement), but putting the obvious aside, I find it interesting that we often treat our actions and beliefs as something inherent to our identity. Messing up, thus, is hard but – admitting that youfve messed up can bruise onefs ego (reason why some people even go as far as saying they wonnft say sorry, or admit they made a mistake).

Thoughts?

A computer, you mean, right? There's no possible way you can live without ever making a mistake :p

$200 is chump change in terms of costs of learning valuable lessons. Unless $200 is ALOT of money for you, learn and move on. You'd think I'd learn after spending over $200 in parking tickets over the last few months. Oh well...

Just be glad it didn't cost you more.

Fortunately I never have to abide by these pearls of wisdom as I never make mistakes.

If I make a mistake, I recognize it, identify what led me to make it, commit to not making the same mistake twice, and then move on.

Then later that night I punch a wall and/or Mikey Mike.

Well I did make mistakes until age 11, when I first saw 2001:A Space Odyssey and heard that quote.

If at all possible cover it up so no one knows about it.

Thats what I do.

Everyone makes mistakes, but the people who are most successful know how to cover them up. And DO NOT make a mistake covering it up!

:p

If you cannot cover it up, then admit it. Its best to come forward early on.
