Depending on the protocols supported by your local Bluetooth protocol stack, there may be some interesting options for using Bluetooth technology at home with special regards to pico- and scatternet technology. See Wikipedia on that, new protocols are developed regularly.
I've employed a local PAN (Personal Area Network) for my living room; there are MANY applications as soon as a TCP/IP connection is working. Moreover, audio streaming and dial-up networking are used here :)
