| Kai Tracid is awesome...to be one of the first (if not the first) to combine the styles of trance and acid into some amazing music. |

Hell no!
He is far away from being the first one who did it
And presonally, I think his tracks are nothing special... I'm saying this as a person who's been into acid for 5 years at least: none of his tracks is REAL acid trance (and i'm not talking about his other aliases here) |

So what is your opinion of his other aliases? |

I know that he was involved in coproducing of some trax of ASYS (together with Frank Ellrich). I must say ASYS have some serious in their discography. Acid Head Cracker (303 Inferno) and Acid Train are among of my favor tracks of all times!
Also, the Warmduscher project (Thilo Markwort + occasionally Kai Tracid) and Formic Acid are pretty succesful, too!
So I would say he can produce better in collaboration with somebody, not by himself

How is that NOT acid trance??
What examples would you say ARE acid trance?? Acid Head Cracker??? |

About 70% of all trance trax have an acid line in them. Are u gonna call all of them acid? No! Only tracks that use the 303 as their MAIN bassline can be considered acid.
Kai Tracid - Trance & Acid ---> listen to it again. In the beginning we hear some primitive and fairly weak acid line that can be heard for only one minute and twenty seconds  Then later, the main theme drops in... and *duh!* it's not acidic (it may sound similar but it was NOT produced by Roland TB303). But guess what? It's the main theme that counts! It's not enough for a track to contain some random acid sounds to be called an ACID TRACK. The best word to describe the 303 in the Kai Tracid's track is monotonous. In 'Trance & Acid', acid is not funky, fuzzy, warm, or cold; it doesn't scream, nor is it any erratic - it's just monotonous and extremely simple... because Tracid does not want to accentuate it. How can that track be called acid if the main emphasis is placed on a completely different bassline??? 303 is only a minor sound there that was put into the track in order to fill in the intro and the "recession" in the middle. Oh well, he used the word 'acid' in the title of his track... so what? Anyone can call their production whatever they want... but does it make any sense? I think it doesn't. It just confuses people. 'Trance & Acid' is only slightly acidic...
As for what I consider acid. Well as I said, basically any track whose main theme is acidic. Wanna good examples? Check out anything from my sig... and specifically 'Afghan Acid', 'Heulender Wolf', 'The Rabbit's Name Was... ', and 'Acperience' for getting a general idea of what good acid trance really is.
And note that I'm not arguing about Kai Tracid being a good/bad producer. He may be an excellent hard trance producer (his voyager rox BTW!) but don't call his trax acid. Because they are hardly acidic. |
