i know... didn't think you'd see an uplifting trance thing from me but i got an email about a big compilation coming out and asking if i had any unsigned trance stuff. figured i'd give it a go.
the track didn't get choosen so here i am with a trance tune that i have no idea what to do with :) either totally awesome reviews or people not liking the lead. this is a combined effort of myself & chris (mezzir). we like it :)
if this gets enough request, i'll share the mastered vers

p.s. and we're not that pompous... Massified = Massachusetts (where we are borth from) + Unified ... and god myspace's player sounds like |

Piano is great. and the lead is very memorable it is absolutely beautiful. The bass was great when that dropped in. This is the kind of trance i want to produce. I really hope you make some more uplifting trance like this.
Ps. Myspace quality sucks you should upload it to sendspace or something unless you are trying to get it signed... which it should be and if so let me know because, i will be interested in buying it. |

Hey there,
Gave this a listen. Nice stuff man.
For me the bottom end sounds very troubled and lacks real punch and definition. The track also seems to be missing that sense of time and space that a lot of trance gives you.
In terms of creativity the piece is creative and makes good use of pauses and flows gracefully.
I would probably like to see a different kick drum and the percs need to be make both clearer and if the mood takes you then I would also make them a bit more driving.
In its current state I would say that whilst it's a good composition it's the sort of track that you could see someone remixing and making a hit rather than it becoming a hit in its own right. (Hope you see what I mean).
It also sounds just a little too cheesy for own personal taste but nonetheless a nice first outing into the world of trance.
Loved it though and you should definately try and make more trance.
Cheers

what are we talkin here production wise(depth, imaging, etc?) or musically?
and thx for the comments, i agree with you although the low end does sound good, but dithering it 4 times to make sure it was the right "file size" for myspace has really brought this sound quality down. |

ok here's my review, it's straightforward, hope it doesnt come across to negatively...just my .02...
the whiney lead synth lacks clarity on my monitors(could be the myspace quality), the beat is pretty standard and not exciting, there isnt too much variation. there isnt anything really memorable or anything that gives me that uplifting feeling a uplifting trance toon gives. it's just bland. |

| no worries about being harsh, we don't really produce trance and i'm sure there are better ways of accomplishing what we tried |

| i think this track has a nice sound but i just think that it doesnt have an emtional impact as alot of trance does. so i also find it to be somewhat "dull" in terms of melodic structure. sounds like it could make a good video game soundtrack piece but im not quite sur e if this one is fit for the dance floor |

damn... really?
4 arps
2 seperate chord progressions
2 pads
1 lead
3 counter melodies
thought i went pretty far in terms of musical notation in this. |

| I think people are judging this one to harshly. The song is more emotional and creative then most of the trance today. imo |

I agree, I don't think there is anything wrong with the composition itself and feel that the idea is one of the better ones seen on the forum for quite some time.
DJ
When I said it was lacking some depth it was a technical point of view i.e. in terms of stereo image and perceieved space of the instruments etc. For the most part my comments will always be related to the technical side of things as I always find it ridiculous when people start giving advice on artistic content.
The sad thing about this forum is that the response a track will get depends more on who wrote it sometimes than what the overall composition sounds like.
There are a handful of producers on this forum who are some of the most revered but write the blandest out there. You can always get help with a mix down, mastering etc. but no one can teach you how to have good ideas.
I think you have good ideas so you are already leaps and bounds ahead of many. Like I said before, I like your ideas and think you should probably try and write some more trance.
Cheers

did see this earlier, as I said before i like this track, piano type lead is good with some nice effects to.
The lead is ok but im not keen on it, but thats just personal tastes. Some nice percs in there, bassline is good also. Mixed nice also. Good job, I cant see this having a problem getting a release if you wanted to go that far with it. I'd mail it out regardless as you ve put the work in. |
