For small indoor/outdoor parties, that is. I was looking at the Mackies and JBLs. I don't need anything too powerful, but I'm looking for something self-powered. Any thoughts on the SRM 450s or 350s? The JBL Eons?
Maybe something cheaper?

Thanks again,

Wish I could help you out and speak from experience using them, but I've read great reviews on the JBL 15" G2 Eons. It's probably be plenty of power for small outdoor gigs, and definitely good for small indoor parties.

B52 Matrix 1000/Matrix 2000 systems are THE BOMB, and they're cheap!

no complaints about the eons, been using them for years, the mackies are nice if you put a computer fan on them to keep them from overheating, used em once for a gig without a fan and it died on me 4 times

the mackies are good if you care about sound quality but the eons pack a wicked punch that cuts through a club sound sytem

mackies sound better and, in my opinion, have better bass response. However, be mindful that they do overheat. I do think, though, that the new generations of 450's fix that overheating issue, or at least mitigate it.

BTW, the B-52's aren't bad either and include a subwoofer.

*UPDATE* the second generation of SRM-450's are amazing; they sound a bit better; weight significantly less; and didn't overheat at a gig we did just recently.

a buddy of mine picked up a pair of Yamahas...I'll see if I can track them down and post a link for u...they were cheaply priced, sounded really good and were small! I was really surprised at how good they sounded. Even had good bass response.
